Marmot UpCycle® Products

Marmot UpCycle® products minimize our impact on the environment by using natural, organic, and recycled or discarded materials that would otherwise end up in landfills.

RECYCLED

Our UpCycle® fabric is made from recycled plastic...hence the name “UpCycle”. When you recycle plastic, you get more plastic; when we UpCycle® plastic, we get fabric, a greater value and a broader use.

Several Marmot products utilize UpCycle® fabric as well as other recycled materials. Our DriClime Catalyst Jacket uses UpCycle® fabric in the bi-component lining (100%), a recycled polyester face fabric (88%) and a completely recycled zipper. Our Eco Pro Sleeping bag series uses both an UpCycle® shell fabric as well as insulation. The shell is made from recycled soda bottles while the insulation contains 80% post consumer waste, and is a hollow core continuous filament.

COCONA®

What is Cocona®?
Cocona® is derived from would-be discarded or “UpCycled®” Coconut shell husks. The husks are then processed into activated charcoal carbon and blended into a polyester matrix, which is spun into a fiber and then knit into a baselayer fabric. Cocona® is integral to the fiber, naturally occurring and cannot wash out. Marmot uses Cocona® in baselayer, much of our sportswear, and is planned for other products in development.

There are many benefits of Cocona®. It dries incredibly fast: 25% faster, addressing the user’s needs these days with shorter trips requiring maximum performance. In addition, it controls odor naturally without anti-microbal treatment and provides UV protection, resisting UV rays rated UPF 40+. It is also natural and permanent, providing naturally enhanced performance that lasts a lifetime!

ORGANIC COTTON

Organic cotton utilizes production methods that have a low impact on the environment. Conventional non-organic cotton is one of the most heavily insecticide-treated crops in the world and uses other chemicals during the growth and production process which are potentially harmful to the environment. Organic cotton is processed without the use of such chemicals and therefore reduces the impact cotton farming has on the environment while retaining qualities of conventional cotton fabrics.

BAMBOO

Bamboo is the most sustainable natural fiber and bamboo yarn represents a new type of eco-friendly textile material. Its quick regeneration means less land and time is needed to produce the bamboo. The type of bamboo used for textiles (Mosa bamboo) can grow to a height of 75 ft. in about 2 months and needs no pesticides due to its natural inherent anti-microbial properties.

Additionally, it contains many beneficial attributes. Its natural anti-microbal properties control odor without added chemicals. It is cool and breathable which will keep you comfortable in hot weather. It is naturally UV resistant and is durable yet soft to the touch. And it is biodegradable, which means it degrades naturally in soil by microorganisms and sunshine so it is gentle on the earth.

HEMP

Hemp is a sustainable, natural fiber that can be used to create durable fabrics. It is naturally strong and incredibly durable yet comfortable to the touch. In addition, it has inherent odor control properties and natural UV resistance. It is a sustainable, biodegradable fabric.

SOY

Soy fabric is created from the by-products of tofu production. Soybeans are a sustainable crop that can be grown with very little chemicals or pesticides. It is a renewable resource that creates a naturally soft fabric.
