This is a technical jacket. The core specifications – Polartec’s new NeoShell fabric, taped seams, storm hood – are impressive. But most importantly it performs well. As with anything new, it’s a little stiff when you first put it on, but that concern quickly fades away as the totally bomber nature of the Zion is realized. While you’re still standing in the store trying it on, you are transported to icy crags and powder days.
This is a winter jacket. The insulative nature of the soft shell is such that during any sporty activity you will want to be in the near freezing/sub-freezing temperatures. The NeoShell fabric is totally windproof. I was impressed when bombing down ski slopes, dead into the wind, and though I felt the pressure of the wind against my body, the cold never seeped through.

Just ordered this jacket after trying it in the store. Very impressed so far. Seems very true to size for a medium. Sleeves are a bit shorter than some of the other Marmot jackets. The fit is also closer to the body/more trim.

What part of the Zion jacket is Neoshell and what part is M1? You have both fabrics listed in your features section here.

I bought the zion a little while ago and cant wait to take it out on the slopes. The jacket is true tech heavil and functional. I paired it up with the zeus vest for added insulation for those bitter days.
Great job on this piece. Super light weight compared to my gravity and has an increased range of motion.

Perfect for winter gulf coast kayaking! Got one for Christmas and next day took my sea kayak out in 50 degrees, windy, wearing this marvelous piece and a t-shirt. Blocked the wind beautifully, and at the same time I did not feel overheated on the way back with the wind to my back. Trim cut (5'10", 150lb - medium) - a thin layer does fit underneath, but would feel snug with a puffy down. My PFD fit nicely over the coat; very comfortable while paddling - no chafing to my inner arms and good coverage to wrist despite my long arms. Hood is small and brilliantly fashioned. Only thing is I wish it had poured rain to test it's waterproofness!

The Zion is a great jacket. I have used it for BC and Resort skiing. It is a bit snug across the back but the material stretches nicely. (I am 5'11" 170 avg build, 41" chest and I have a Medium) My wish for this jacket is a Ski Helmet Compatible Hood. Preferably have the storm collar and hood separate like you see on a lot of the Arcteryx jackets. Otherwise this jacket breathes great and stands up to any snow storm! BTW - with my build and the sizing layer needs to be done with low bulk items. I recently wore a craft base layer, ice breaker 260, bibs and the Zion and it worked great.

The Zion is an incredible jacket. It breathes better than any shell I've ever owned and has proven itself completely waterproof in the 2 months I've owned it. I have used this around town, resort skiing, snowshoeing and hiking. It is my favorite jacket and the best jacket I can take on practically any outing.
Since the Zion breathes so well, it definitely runs cooler than other waterproof shells (e.g. Gore-tex) that I've used, simply because you don't have the heat build up inside. This is the beauty of the jacket, I've just found I need to layer up (with breathable layers so I don't negate the jacket's awesomeness) in cold weather.
The hood and neck are the only feature that I don't love. They are fine if you're not wearing a helmet, but do not really accommodate a ski helmet and the neck is too tight over the face when fully zipped.
My only suggestion for this amazing piece would be to make the neck and hood more voluminous so they can be worn more comfortably with and without helmets.
Thanks for the great jacket Marmot!
