Down
From the beginning, down has been Marmot’s foremost insulator. No synthetic surpasses the lightweight, compactability and longevity of down.

Marmot Down DNA:
Down is in our DNA. Marmot was founded in 1974 as a manufacturer and seller of premium quality down jackets, vests and sleeping bags. To this day we only use the finest quality certified goose down for our down insulated outdoor products. Mountaineers and outdoor enthusiasts worldwide rely on Marmot down gear for warmth, comfort, and sometimes survival.
Marmot Down Quality:
Down quality is determined by fill power and durability which is dependent upon the age/maturity of the bird and the processing of the down. The best down comes from larger, more mature birds and goose down is better than duck down (when age/maturity are equal). More mature goose down has larger filament clusters than less mature goose down. These clusters, when grouped, provide many more trapped air pockets and therefore provide better insulation. To maximize the effectiveness of the down clusters, the proper processing of the down (sorting, washing & drying) is required to open them up.
Higher fill power means higher loft, better insulation, lighter weight, and greater durability. We test all of our down for content, cleanliness, species, and fill power. We guarantee minimum fill power for all of our down clothing and sleeping bags. That means, for example, that our 800 fill sleeping bags are guaranteed to have at minimum 800 fill power. We don’t believe in + or – variation when it comes to comfort.
Down Origins:
Down is the light, fluffy undercoating at the base of the feathers of waterfowl. Down is a multi-dimensional structure that insulates by creating pockets of still air that retain body heat. Down is highly breathable and exceptionally comfortable. Pound for pound, high quality down is the most efficient natural insulator there is.
Geese are raised primarily for food and the down that is derived from them is a by-product of the food industry. Geese are raised on large and small farms and roam free outside on these farms. This is their natural environment. They are not raised indoors in controlled conditions. Geese are grain fed and also have access to local plant life.
Geese are generally harvested after 4-9 months for food. Some female geese are kept for breeding stock and are harvested between 1-2 years. These are the geese called the “mother birds” that provide the best, most mature down. After the geese have been harvested for food, the down and feathers are removed, washed, dried and then sorted by separating the down and small feathers from the larger, heavier feathers. These processing methods determine the final quality and fill power of the down. Marmot currently buys down primarily from Russia, Poland & China.
Marmot Guaranteed For Life:
Since 1974 we’ve guaranteed every product we’ve made for the life of the product. We believe the best thing for everyone and the environment is to make products that last.

The Zeus Jacket is incredible. Extremely lightweight and exceptionally warm. I've worn this jacket over a t-shirt in 20 degree weather and been comfortable. At the same time, it is roomy enough to accommodate layers for colder conditions. A great jacket at a fair price.

I bought this Jacket on sale at REI. I am a avid hiker and it is perfect for that. Extremely warm and comfortable. I am very happy with this jacket.

Wonderful jacket, super lightweight with more warmth than any jacker this size should provide. Great for late season backpacking when the weather is unpredictable - just stuff it into its own pocket and be ready for the worst.
This jacket with a hardshell is great up until early winter. With a midweight softshell (i've been using the Ultima Jacket - an M2 softshell) I've been comfortable walking around in 15 degree weather.

How do you put the jacket in the pocket? There are no instructions for this.
on 11/27/10.
I do not know how to fold it into its own pocket either. If someone knows, please post instructions. Thanks!

Are you guys serious?
1. Find the pocket with the double sided pull- the left pocket IIRC. Unzip it.
2. Reach your hand into the pocket. Pull the pocket inside out.
3. Stuff the jacket into the pouch created by the inside-out pocket until the *entire* jacket is packed.
4. Zip shut.
Voilà!
Do not leave the jacket packed into its own pocket indefinitely- it's bad for the down. In your pack between campsites on a hiking trip, yes; in your closet for the summer, no.

I also bought this jacket at REI. It is extremely warm for its bulk and weight. I bought it instead of another fleece jacket since I am a cold-blooded guy - and it has been awesome.

Hi I have a doubt. Let me know if this jacket is suitable for mountaineering activities at altitudes of 16000 feet? and secondly I would like to know the minimum temperature that could support this jacket?
on 12/6/11.
The jacket will definitely work at 16k feet. How effective it is (minimum temperature) really depends on the season, conditions, your layering setup, and your own tolerances to cold weather/wind.

It's a great lightweight insulating piece but as the description states for the "city". Can it be used as a layering piece yes. I use it for winter backpacking and skiing, but with other base layers. And alone as an insulating piece for spring/fall backpacking after the hike. At serious altitude I would look towards another item with a heavier fill weight.

I bought a Zeus jacket while on holiday in Wales UK.
It is fantastic. Now my wife wants one but as we live in England in Kent we cannot find a retailer to try one. As she may want one with a hood she would rather try one in a shop than sent mail order.
Do you know of any retailers in our area 50 miles south east of London.

I have a small tear in my sleeve approx 1cm x 1cm in an "L" shape. Is there a repair kit on the market that will be sufficient to fix this, or can I send it back to marmot for a repair?
on 11/12/10.
Please go to our warranty page at https://warranty.marmot.com/ to register your Zeus Jacket and send it back to us for repair. Thank you!

am interested in buying this for my husband. doesn't talk about any water/wind resistence or repellent.
please advise and thanks much.
on 11/17/10.
Thank you for your question. The Zeus jacket is water repellant. This means that in a light mist or fog, water will just bead up on the outside of the jacket. The Zeus Jacket is not meant for wearing in a heavy rain.

thanks so much - i'm going to order it for him for xmas. awesome!!
on 4/16/11.
Im sure the team at Marmot knows what they're talking about, but i just bought this jacket and left set it under hard running water and the only thing that i saw was water beading off! Absolutely no part of the fabric became saturated at all!

I own the Zeus jacket and vest, as does my wife. These are AMAZING! They're so light if feels like you have nothing on. The comfort is second to none. SUPER warm all winter long, and you don't get hot if it's, say, 55 degrees out. How they do it, I don't know. Highly recommend these!

This jacket is legit. As in, it would hit on your girlfriend, and you would let it. That being said....
I have used this jacket for various hiking/outdoor/peak bagging activities in Idaho. We recently went through a cold snap that dropped the temp to -5 deg, and this jacket performed great, it is extremely warm especially with a t-shirt and base layer underneath. One thing I really liked was that it was not as puffy and huge as some down jackets, so I don't look like an Eskimo. (Nothing against Eskimos:-) I'm a tall guy, 6'4" and 190 lbs, but fairly thin, and the XL fits me like a champ with plenty of room for layering underneath. If you are tall and want a super slim fit, go with a L.
Sleeve Length is great (I have long arms), stretchy cuffs stay tight over gloves, cinch string is fantastic and with the sleeve design this jacket won't ride up if you are securing gear to your car roof or reaching above shoulder level. One major bonus is the zipper construction which doesn't let freezing cold wind through the jacket, which is great because we get a TON of wind in Idaho.
Jacket is mildly water resistant, I have worn it in light snow, and haven't had any problems. Would not recommend wearing in a rain storm without a waterproof shell on top (obviously).
In conclusion... jacket is warm, light, fits well, affordable, and...looks pretty bad A. Stoked to use in Jackson Hole this winter:-)

I LOVE this jacket! My (evil) twin brother has had his for two years and always raved about how warm it is (he is an avid bicyclist and he swears how warm it keeps him riding through the windy Philadelphia streets). My lovely wife just bought me one today. Even with just a t-shirt underneath, it is incredibly warm! So happy that a product actually lives up to it's promises!!!!

Amazing jacket, both weight and warmth is unbelievable. A must have for anyone living in a cold climate. Don't forget to log into the Marmot site to register your Zeus Jacket. https://warranty.marmot.com

I have several down sweaters and I tend to wear Zeus the most. It is just the right weigh and fit. Down does not leak like the other down sweaters, and it has packs nicely into its own pocket. It's inner-pockets hold glove and hat nicely.
I also like the hem sizing from the front pockets and it holds well.
I continue to enjoy Marmot more than other garment/gear manufactures.

With all my Marmot Gear the Large fits great (6'2" 205lbs). The sleeves are perfect length and the elastic cuffs are great for tucking your gloves underneath to help protect from blowing snow or the cold wind.
It also features a "wind flap" behind the zipper to help combat wind drafts. The pockets are nice and warm. And it's a space saver when you pack it into its own pocket.
This jacket was well thought out without going overboard with mindless features. It has what you need and nothing you don't.
Great to wear as an outler layer in dry cold conditions or as a midlayer, underneath a shell, in wet or snowy conditions.
Compared to other down jackets (Patagonia Down Sweater, First Ascent Down Sweater) this is by far the best deal and the cheapest also.
Go buy one, you won't regret it.

This jacket rocks! Have had many coats/jackets over the years but it keeps me warm even at -30. Live in northern Ontario where winters can be cruel. I suggest it to everyone

This jacket is now my favorite. Extremely light and very warm. Marmot makes quality products that you can count on.

This is the second Marmot jacket I have owned. I first purchased the PreCip jacket and realized I needed some insulation. I was unsure about a down jacket because I am a rather large guy (6'1", 280 lbs). I learned that Marmot is known for their down sleeping bags. So, I thought their down jackets might be worth a shot.
I tried on the Zeus Jacket and fell in love with it. It's super light-weight and keeps you very comfortable/warm depending on the temperature. South Carolina doesn't get extremely cold, but I have worn this jacket over a cotton t-shirt in 17 degrees and been fine. It's also wind-resistant.
This has become my go-to jacket and I've had many compliments.

I am 6'2" 200 lbs and I have an athletic build and a large fits great. It seems to be more roomy than other jackets that are similar. This jacket is by far the most comfortable jacket I have ever owned. I do a considerable amount of backpacking and I take this jacket with me on all my spring, fall, and winter trips. I will be thru-hiking the Pacific Crest Trail in 2011 (all 2,660 miles) and this will be the jacket that I bring with me. I have worn this jacket in 20 degree weather with 20-30 mph sustained winds and kept warm with a dri-fit long sleeve shirt underneath it. I just got back from Yosemite Park last night. It was in the low 30s during the day and high teens/low 20s at night and I wore this jacket the entire time I was there and I stayed toasty warm even when it was snowing. The snow did not soak my jacket and ruin the down insulation. The jacket according to my digital scale weighs 15 ounces and like I said above I wear a large. I get cold easily which is why I don't mind the 15 oz weight in my backpack as opposed to the Montbell UL Thermawrap jacket that weighs in at 7 to 8 ounces. This jacket is much warmer and fits better than the Montbell. Also, as mentioned by another post this jacket packs down much smaller than just stuffing it into its own pocket if you are concerned with volume. I would recommend this jacket to anyone from city folk, car campers, and backpackers. Marmot makes great products!

The Zeus is hands down, without a doubt, my favourite article of performance outdoor apparel. Perfect fit, perfect price, just perfect. Under a shell and over layers. Even keeps me warm when compressed under a pack and kept me dry in a surprise heavy snowfall on the trail.
I recommend the Zeus to everyone.
I'm 5'6" and 130lbs and the small fits better than every other company's offering I tried on before choosing the Zeus.
Stop reading this and go buy one.

The Zeus jacket tops all of the competition for warmth, quality, and packability.
Can the the Zeus jacket be sprayed with Granger's XT WATERPROOFER to give it more water repellency?
