PreCip®

PreCip® is our “next step” technology that enables us to construct the lightest, most compressible, technical, waterproof and breathable rainwear in the world. Ventilated and breathable to keep you dry from the inside, PreCip® rainwear has plenty of pockets and custom fit features to keep you warm, dry and comfortable.

The new PreCip® coating is now more waterproof, more breathable and more comfortable to wear. We've added ceramic particles in the coating for added durability, waterproof reliability and Dry Touch comfort.

The key to PreCip® is its barrier technology: a microporous polyurethane that is impregnated with silicon dioxide particles. These particles create small, numerous, very consistent holes that allow the barrier to pass small water vapor molecules but not the bigger liquid ones. This keeps the rain out while letting your sweat vapor work its way outside, away from your body, to keep you dry from the inside as well as from the outside. PreCip® rainwear is compressible enough to stuff into a water bottle and comes in enough colors and styles to travel with you anywhere– to the mountains, the city or overseas.

How do you put the whole coat into the pocket? I can't figure it out!!

want to purchase precip

I wore this jacket in nonstop rain kayaking for at least a half an hour. I stayed dry the whole time! This is a perfect lightweight jacket. It also has a double sided zipper in the pocket so that you can turn it into a pouch, which is great for hiking. I would recomend this jacket to anyone that is active outdoors! :)

One of the tags on my jacket said that I could register this garment with you since it is guaranteed for life.

I could not find where to do this anywhere on your site. Please let me know where I can do this.

Thanks,

Joanna

I have had my precip jacket for about 7 years and it has given me many years of good and dry service. I have only put the jacket through the washing machine 4 or 5 times, figuring that a little dirt would be better than loosing the waterproofing. I just took my jacket on a very rainy camping trip and to my dismay it not longer kept the rain on the outside. I ended up soaked and cold. Is this timing about the expected life of the jacket, or is there something I can do to get my rain jacket back in action?

thank you,
-Allegra

Hi Allegra,

When you wash waterproof items, you should get residue free laundry detergent (can get it at an outdoor store) to keep it from losing waterproofing. To rewaterproof it, you can get waterproofing spray, also available at an outdoor store. There are some bottles designed for jackets/pants/etc (others are specifically for shoes or tents). I have done this several times with older raincoats to "touch up" the waterproofing and get many more years out of it!

I love this jacket!! It is perfectly designed. Every time I use it I marvel at how well it works. It is completely waterproof ( I live in Oregon), weighs nothing, windproof and durable. It does fold into it's pocket- just wad it up and stuff it into side pocket with double zip and loop. Unfold it and shake it out and it looks perfect. I think this is the best rain coat available! Thanks a million Marmot.

Does the jacket pack into a pocket?

One of the pockets has two zipper pulls. Simply hold the pocket open toward you and pull the fabric inward. When it's all in the pocket, the pocket should be inside out and the inner zipper pull is now on the outside.

I liked mine so much that when I left it behind on an accident I repurchased the exact same one. It is not hot at all but keeps out moisture very well. Like the pit zips and packing capabilities. I pack a very small pack for day trips and it is no prob to fit in my pack.

I have had my precip jacket about 1 1/2 yrs. - a gift from my daughter. I really do enjoy it because I work outside and it wears well over my clothing. I have a black grease spot on one sleeve. What can I do to remove it. After reading a previous comment about washing and it was no longer waterproof, I'm afraid to put it in the washer. Please respond. Also, is it too late to register my jacket?

I use a dedicated product for cleaning waterproof/breathables, such as Nikwax wash, and rinse the jacket well. Then I touch up the waterproofing and the slickness of the outer surface of the cloth with one of several "wash-in" or "spray-on" products made by several manufacturers, including NIkwax. I can't say for sure that it will remove the grease spot, but it will clean up the jacket in general and preserve its waterproofness. If you're careful, you might be able to wipe off the grease spot with regular liquid detergent and then rinse the spot, and finally run the whole jacket through the "tech wash" "restore" treatment cycle. Good luck!

I have had the Precip for several years (8?) and it has been perfect for Florida weather and travel. I just noticed that the interior coating is wearing off /breaking down around the neck and arm pit area. Is this something that is covered by warranty? Thanks!

I purchased a PreCip jacket on 16th June and would like to register it on your site but when I put in www.warranty.marmot.com it comes up with 'Sorry the site cannot be found' Can you explain please?
