Down
From the beginning, down has been Marmot’s foremost insulator. No synthetic surpasses the lightweight, compactability and longevity of down.

Marmot Down DNA:
Down is in our DNA. Marmot was founded in 1974 as a manufacturer and seller of premium quality down jackets, vests and sleeping bags. To this day we only use the finest quality certified goose down for our down insulated outdoor products. Mountaineers and outdoor enthusiasts worldwide rely on Marmot down gear for warmth, comfort, and sometimes survival.
Marmot Down Quality:
Down quality is determined by fill power and durability which is dependent upon the age/maturity of the bird and the processing of the down. The best down comes from larger, more mature birds and goose down is better than duck down (when age/maturity are equal). More mature goose down has larger filament clusters than less mature goose down. These clusters, when grouped, provide many more trapped air pockets and therefore provide better insulation. To maximize the effectiveness of the down clusters, the proper processing of the down (sorting, washing & drying) is required to open them up.
Higher fill power means higher loft, better insulation, lighter weight, and greater durability. We test all of our down for content, cleanliness, species, and fill power. We guarantee minimum fill power for all of our down clothing and sleeping bags. That means, for example, that our 800 fill sleeping bags are guaranteed to have at minimum 800 fill power. We don’t believe in + or – variation when it comes to comfort.
Down Origins:
Down is the light, fluffy undercoating at the base of the feathers of waterfowl. Down is a multi-dimensional structure that insulates by creating pockets of still air that retain body heat. Down is highly breathable and exceptionally comfortable. Pound for pound, high quality down is the most efficient natural insulator there is.
Geese are raised primarily for food and the down that is derived from them is a by-product of the food industry. Geese are raised on large and small farms and roam free outside on these farms. This is their natural environment. They are not raised indoors in controlled conditions. Geese are grain fed and also have access to local plant life.
Geese are generally harvested after 4-9 months for food. Some female geese are kept for breeding stock and are harvested between 1-2 years. These are the geese called the “mother birds” that provide the best, most mature down. After the geese have been harvested for food, the down and feathers are removed, washed, dried and then sorted by separating the down and small feathers from the larger, heavier feathers. These processing methods determine the final quality and fill power of the down. Marmot currently buys down primarily from Russia, Poland & China.
Marmot Guaranteed For Life:
Since 1974 we’ve guaranteed every product we’ve made for the life of the product. We believe the best thing for everyone and the environment is to make products that last.

This jacket is the staple item in my ski-touring pack. Absolutely essential if you never want to be cold again. It works as an outer layer or as an inner layer. The hood makes all the difference. It is light-weight and has very cosy pockets. And the colour choices are fantastic. Our kids where them to school, touring and on the ski-hill.

This is the first Marmot product that I've ever purchased. I have purchased numerous winter jackets by other major brands and I think I'm now a Marmot convert!
I bought the Ama Dablam jacket two weeks ago. This jacket is absolutely amazing. It is really warm yet very light. We've had some cold days in Toronto so far this winter and I look forward to wearing my jacket. The honey-comb pattern is WAY more stylish than the traditional "Michelin Man" pattern in most down jackets.
The fit is FANTASTIC. I'm very broad-shouldered but small-waisted and normally, I have to buy a large ... and by doing so, the stomach area is just huge on me. But in this jacket, I purchased a medium and it fits great across the shoulders and the stomach! This is also another reason why the jacket is so warm.
My only peeve with the jacket is the interior/exterior colour combination. I bought the black jacket and the interior lining is a very dark navy. The combo reminds me of a bruise! It would be better if the lining were black or some other complimentary colour. But this is such a minor quibble that I still give this jacket 5 stars.
Love it. I'm a Marmot fan for life!

I have owned a couple "puffy' coats throughout the years, and this is by far my favorite. It is less puffy than other jackets, but with more stitching and high quality down, it heats me up great. Less puff too means that on frigid ski resort days, it can fit under my ski coat, and the hood is fantastic. Really, really great jacket, definitely recommend to anyone looking for a warm (not-too- puffy) jacket. Not lightweight in performance, just lighter in bulk.

I purchased my first Ama Dablam jacket last year at REI in College Park, Maryland. This is the best down coat i have ever bought. I love this coat so much that i have two in my closet to choose from which are the black and yellowish/green. I see that Marmot has other colors available that will become part of my wardrobe which are the orange and red. I took my coat to Toronto, Canada and it stood up to the cold. I suggest if you like this coat you better get it quick because they tend to go fast. A great buy worth the money tens times over. Oh purchase on of the fleece if you tend to venture out to places like Canada where the weather is brutal. enjoy!

I just bought this jacket and I'm wondering if anyone knows if it will be warm enough for a ski trip I'm going on this Feb to Steamboat. I'm hoping this jacket is tested for cold temps, so if anyone can tell me how cold it can go---while keeping you warm---I'd love to hear from you. Thank you.

The Ama Dablam would be great on a ski trip. It's lightweight, compressible and very warm. It's also perfect for layering, if the weather is shifty.

I've never been so warm! It's a boxy fit. I like more fitted and longer styles. Nothing beats 800 fill. It's so lightweight.

Got this for my wife on Christmas 2010; now in Jan 2012 I'm proud to report she wears this jacket almost every day, we live in Denver, CO so it can be cool during fall, winter, & spring. She's small and gets cold easy and wears this jacket always :) great job Marmot!!
