600 Fill Down

Certified 600 Fill Goose Down bags are constructed with the following features:
- Nautilus Hood: the same construction as our 8000m jacket hood, a 3D hood that
wraps around your head and reduces heat loss. - Hood Muff: creates a warm down gasket around your face, keeping the drawcord
away from the face. - Stretch Tricot Baffles: allow the bag to be stuffed and unstuffed without tearing the baffle material.
- Trapezoid Foot box: matches the shape of your feet, wider in the toe area and narrower in the heels.
- Down Fill Oversized Draft Tube: eliminates cold spots
- Zipper guard: keeps the draft tube fabric from getting caught in the zipper
- Ground Level Seams: top layer wraps fully around the body creating a warm layer of down.

Purchased this jacket on sale at REI recently. Looks good on all the essentials for my winter hiking/camping/backpacking. Very tough, warm, waterproof, comfortable, enough pockets, well sized, Price very competitive for this quality. In black, it will also be fine to wear to work over a sport jacket on very cold days. Haven’t actually tried it out yet backpacking – that will be next winter. But experience backpacking during the recent February blizzard showed me that I needed to replace my old winter jacket with something like this.

Re my prior post, I should say that the one thing I really miss, and that my old jacket had, was chest cargo pockets (with velcro, not zippers). Almost no jackets have them now, and in winter you will need easy access to some items while wearing the pack. Nothing else works as well, and I abhor too much hanging on the pack or from straps, and it’s not convenient anyhow.

I purchased a Whitehorse this past January after deciding that I preferred to buy a down parka that didn't have the "Michelin man" look and an obnoxious "me too" logo. I wanted something really warm with a removable hood that allowed decent peripheral vision, and that also had an adjustable waist and hem. This parka filled the bill.
I'm a bit over 6', weigh 175 lbs., and have a 35" sleeve length. The Whitehorse fits like it was tailored for me. I still have room to wear a wool sweater or fleece vest underneath and the Angel-wing arm design works great -- you can lift your arms over your head without the parka riding up.
As the other reviewer states, this parka has a very durable outer fabric. It shouldn't be prone to tearing or puncturing easily. It does seem to hold wrinkles with a vengeance though. That doesn't bother me (I think the coat looks great), but I mention it because it might bother some people.
I do have a couple of small nitpicks though. The handwarmer pockets are not surrounded by down on both sides. There is down on the side your palms face when your hand is in the pocket, but that's it. On the upside, the pockets are lined with fleece.
Also, the powder skirt extends well below my waist and is a bit loose even when snapped shut. While that's great for someone with a big rear end who's wearing bulky pants, it was a less than perfect fit for me. If the loose fit bothers me enough down the road, it's easy enough for someone to take it in a bit with needle and thread.
Minor nitpicks aside, I'm very happy with the Whitehorse parka and consider it to have been a great purchase. l have Marmot down products from the early 1980s that are still going strong, so I have no doubt that given proper care, this parka should last a very long time.

I am a skinny person. the coat did a fair job in 30 degrees.

I made a mistake on the first review, so I wrote a new review. I am a skinny person with height of 5 feet and 7 inches tall. The whitehorse did a fair job in 30 degrees with out inner layers. The only thing I wore was coduroy pants, cotton underwear, cotton tank top undershirt, sneakers, button down dress shirt, the whitehorse parka, insulated down gloves, and a wool hat.

This coat is the successor to another named Marmot model, but I understand the spec is the same. Mine is bright orange and was bought around 6 yrs ago in New York for a very cold weekend visit by a Brit, who sold it on Ebay to me.
I can only wear this jacket a couple of weeks a year, it is so warm. I used to get laughed at, wearing such a bright coat, but I have the last laugh, as I am warm in this coat.
For over 10 years, I actually wanted the NF McMurdo parka. Well, my wife bought me one for our 16th wedding anniversary, just over 3 weeks ago. England has just had a bit of a freeze, this week, so I was glad to wear both coats, not at the same time, that is. The WhiteHorse parka is so much warmer than the NF parka. If I hadsome more money, Id buy my wife one, as she wers mine, and one for my boys too.
Seriously quality gear.
Thank you

Bought the Whitehorse Parka for a mid winters trip to Russia. One day was -23c with a seriously strong and bitterly cold wind. All i wore was a tshirt and the Marmot Parka and felt very warm. Best decision i ever made was buying this jacket, very very happy.

I just bought 2 for my wife and I . The last jacket I had was Gortex and I used it for 18 years so shopping for a new one I was very critical (gortex coat was still good, just old). I gave my old coat to a church. Like a few have already said, I too went outside in the snow ( 19 F ) with just a tee-shirt underneath and was very warm. I like the hood because it protects the neck and lower face very well. I am excited to go out in some serious weather this winter. We are living on the East Coast, where last year we had more snow than Alaska!!

I just ordered a Whitehorse Parka.
The advertised image and info provided appears to be very nice.
I live in a very cold area and this Parka should do well.
I currently have an old Parka "Comstock Expidition"
The old coat is quite similar to the one ordered; however, the sleeve ends are fraying. Time for a new thing (after 14 years). The old coat's outershell was not waterproof. I'll be looking forward to this new waterproof coat.
I'll update when I've used it a little while.

RE:Whitehorse Parka 4 stars +
This is the follow-up to my posting on 1/9.
My new Coat fits and looks good (for a Parka style)
This Parka is Very good. It's light weight, yet warm; even in sub zero F temps.
The design of pockets, draw strings and various adjustment are good.
I'm using this parka for daily use for normal time spent outside. I'd recomend this product.
Although my parka is very warm and does the job well, for real long periods outdoors or deep sports activities
I'd prefer one of the Marmot higher down filled products; such as the 700 or 800 down fill .
*I spent a lot of time online researching to find a Parka.
In my opinion, Marmot is one of the top companies in this genre.
I hope this commentary will help someone choose wisely.
Note for The Marketing Dept.
I wonder why Marmot doesn't advertise certain products for "work outerwear" as well ???
They would do very well competing with Carr Hart (which I think is quite inferior)
They have developed an undeserved following among the Building Trade workers and Farmers.
That's a lot of potential customers !!!!

Just purchased the jacket and walked home in a snow storm with the wind chill at -18c. I must say I was quite comfortable since all I was wearing under the jacket was a s/s tee and a l/s fleece 1/4 zip (to vent). I purchased what was called brick (tired of blue and black). Best decision I made. I would like to mention two small faults with the jacket. The two strips of velcro on the hood flaps need to be place further down or add an additional strip. I have a small neck and when I close the hood I have excess material that flaps in the wind. It would be nice if the two flaps that go across your face had a flannel material so the nylon wont chafe my nose.

Oops! I forgot to rate the coat.

been looking for a new winter coat. Was looking at a northface but everyone seems to have one and my previous northface wasn't really that great for me. I just bought this one a couple of weeks ago and it has to be the best coat I've ever had, hands down. Extremely warm, but doesn't over heat, deep pockets, love the adjustable neck so I can keep the wind out without a scarf, and if it is too windy I put on the hood and the front wraps around my mouth and I can even tuck my nose in for complete protection. This coat will not let you down.

I live in sunny Spain (Europe) and I bought my whitehorse a couple of winters ago on a trip to Canada because I didn't have enough with the parka I brought with me. I only use it 2 or 3 weeks per year (it would probably last forever) and I am very happy with it because it's warmer than my old parka but lighter and when the temperature is not that extreme it doesn't overheat.
