Thermal R
Thermal R is Marmot's proprietary family of polyester insulations specifically engineered to meet various needs from sleeping bags, to garments to gloves. Mid loft, excellent warmth to weight, resilient loft, and durable.

Polartec® Power Stretch®
Polartec® Power Stretch® fabrics feature body-hugging 4-way stretch and are very breathable. They keep you dry when you sweat and provide warmth without weight. These are the most versatile outdoor and fitness apparel fabrics available today.
Polartec® Power Stretch® fabrics feature a proprietary construction with two unique surfaces: the durable nylon outer layer is wind- and abrasion-resistant; the soft inner layer pulls moisture away from your skin keeping you dry, warm and comfortable. The fabric also features compression stretch which can improve performance and reduces the chance of certain types of stop-go injuries. Polartec® Power Stretch® excels at handling the demands of the next-to-skin environment.
How does it work? Moisture and high relative humidity next to the skin cause discomfort. Polartec® Power Stretch® keeps the skin dry through three complementary mechanisms:
1) The fabric is highly breathable and does not restrict the movement of moisture vapor.
2) "Touch Points" on the fabric inner surface draw off the sweat. Sweat is wicked off the skin to the outside of the fabric, where it spreads rapidly for evaporation.
3) When the sweat reaches the outside of the fabric, it spreads out to many times its original surface area, enabling it to dry at least 2 times faster than cotton.

This is a terrific jacket. lightweight, warm and flexible. Great on a bike, on the mountain or at dinner.

Love this jacket, athletic cut fits great, light and warm for fall days and fits great as a midlayer as well.

Great Jacket!!!! The fit is perfect!! I am 6'3'' and have long arms and the cut on the sleeves are awesome!! It is super stylish and incredibly warm. Great Base/Midlayer piece. Perfect in any outdoor activity! The only downfall on the jacket is that the seam stitching is a bit weak. I am having multiple threads come out or atleast starting to fray. It could be caused by the fact that I wear it every other day or so!

Best jacket I've owned for running in cold weather. Wicks and evaporates moisture very quickly when you need it most. Love the cut of the jacket.

Used this thing for hang gliding. love the power stretch sleeves, the thumbholes are a plus, the insulation is great. i usually flew with a fleece and a wind shell, but now i just have a thin base and this jacket and im good to go. on colder days (50deg>) i go with a thermal or my UA coldgear under this....
perfect for HGing

Great jacket, worn it for a day just with a shirt underneath and felt very comfortable in a cold winter day.
I'm 6' and 76kg with long arms and bought an M size, fits perfectly.

Wow, this thing is sooo sweet. Works great under a shell as it more or less doesn´t take any space.
But it is as great on a bike ride or run i fall. I am using this jacket almost daily and must say that it is amazing.
Good also that it uses recycled materials.

Love it.
So flexible and lightweight, still warm enough. I will buy another one for my brother for Christmas present and for my wife.

Great little jacket!
Perfect for activities where you are continualy moving about.
I layer it under my ROM jacket and sometimes add the mica jacket over that.
I know this jacket has its purpose but I have a recomendation for a new similar jacket that would serve great purpose for the guy who is not actively moving.
For example sitting by a campfire in a camp chair.
If you designed a version of the jacket with the insulating layer in the back as well?
I like the warmth of the arms as is but its always my back that is coldest even when out winter camping.

I wanted a bodywarmer but found them all too bulky, this is thin, fitted and keeps you warm. This is great as a mid layer, with a outer shell jacket on top or just on its own. Longer arms are good for me and love the thumholes. Haven't tried it cycling yet but expect it to be great at wicking sweat away.

Just got this jacket in the mail, bear with me as I explain the flux of thoughts/emotions involved. I was excited as soon as the jacket arrived, I tore it out of the packaging and immediately thought I was going to be disappointed. It was so thin and so light, I thought "how could this possibly keep me warm?" Well I tried it on, zipped it up, and all of a sudden felt a good feeling of warmth. I was very much surprised at just how warm it kept me, I stepped outside (7 pm in Wisconsin) and was still just about as warm! I walked around a little outside, still totally warm! I don't know how it does it, but somehow this jacket manages to be extremely light, very thin, looks great, and feels amazing! 5 stars!

I can't believe how warm it is on a 40 something day. It has a great feel, light, stretchy, and never feels in the way. The hand warmer pockets are great and soft inside. Can't wait for it to be a little colder to see how it does.
One other note, I bought this jacket for the cool nights while on travel to the New Zealand south island. It's easy to roll up, so it will take up very little room in my back pack.

Great jacket for cold weather running. It is by far the best jacket I've found for running when the weather dips below 30 degrees.

I just ordered one. Can't wait till it arrives. With all the positive reviews i am sure it will be a winner!

I own a Marmot Leadville and Aegis Jacket for hiking/backpacking/camping and looking at the Variant to layer with those 2. Has anyone layered that way before? I am guessing Variant will be inside the Leadville to utilise the windstopper then inside the Aegis for rain. I wear both in medium. I am guessing will be the same for the VAriant? Thankyou.

I just recently purchased this jacket at an insanely low price. We had a cool snap when the temps were around 50 degrees and this jacket performed brilliantly. I am excited to see how it holds up on backpacking outings because it is extremely light and warm.
