Backpacker 3/06 Twilight 2P

Best Buy

This tapered dome is “the best all-around two-person, three-plus-season tent we’ve seen for roominess, weather-resistance, and practicality,” our testers concluded after trips through the Everglades, Glacier, and Big Bend, where it stood up to 30 mph winds. Twin entrances make for easy exits, and the large vestibules offer beaucoup room for packs and wet gear. The mesh ceiling ventilated well on steamy, wet nights, but nylon side panels lower down kept wind and sand at bay during gusty storms.

Reviews and comments

I bought this tent in Ecuador, two months into a year long Sth American trip. It saw every condition you could throw at it - from beach camping in Colombia, week-long hikes with camps between 3500 - 4500m in Peru and Bolovia, the wind swept ranges of Patagonia to a 72hr blizzard while mountaineering in Argentina - and held up perfectly throughout.

It was really easy to set up under all conditions, cool in the warmer climes (beautiful view of the stars with the fly off) and warm enough in the mountains. It isn't a full mountain tent and though it can easily cope with high winds and a foot or so of snow, it would get cold in more extreme conditions and can be difficult to set up on small, rocky mountain campsites due to the need to pitch the vestibules out (if i couldn't i just weighed them down with rocks).

Have used it a few times now back home in Australia and can say that even after 70 nights use it's still the perfect tent - light enough to carry myself and easily spacious enough for both my girlfriend and I plus our gear!

I gather from the site that Marmot have stopped producing this tent, which is a real shame. You couldn't hope to find a better all round backpacking / travel tent. I'm just glad I've got my one!

I got this tent in Ecuador too, for general purpose and for me works awesome, from low lands in here (1500m) to some high altitude (4800m) but protected from very heavy wind at this heights, this is a perfect choice for all year use here in this country.
i had a 8hours- heavy rain in 3800m and this tent was very nice, no water inside the tent, only a bit condensation inside but i think it was because me and my girlfriend were soaked and our clothing too.

i highly recommend this tent for anyone that is no looking for expedition tents.

I just ordered this tent, I'm definitely stoked to give it a run for its money. I think that the one pole thing is pretty neat and I'm pretty excited to set it up.

I just purchased this tent for bicycle touring. Easy set up-ingenious pole system-love the window-gear loft poorly placed-spacious vestibules. If Marmot is discontinuing this model I would snap one up before they disappear . The Twilight 2 is a great tent!

I bought this tent last summer for a backpacking trip to Canada. The tent is light and well packed occupy very little. I picked this model, because the total length is only 17 inches and fits well in the rack of the bike.

The tent is really easy to build and is spacious enough to keep all the gear inside or even the two laterals. A couple of days we got rain and wind, but no problem.

I highly recommend the tent to use it for backpacking or biking trips.

I was supposed to sleep in another tent that I brought on my trip to the Simien National Park in Ethiopia but it was deemed that it would suit another group traveling with us better. So my tent-mate and I were handed this tent 30 minutes before sundown at the campsite. Without instructions it flew up. I was so impressed with the tent poles I actually remember saying, "Why aren't all tents this simple!" The tent performed flawlessly during our early October trip. Thank you for making this product.

Set up of this tent couldn't have been easier. It held up to 4 nights in Northern Ethiopia with temps ranging from 70 degrees F to 32 F. Never experienced condensation and the dual gear vestibules allowed for a clutter free sleeping area. Tent felt larger than a 2 person.

This is by far the best tent I have ever owned. I solo cycle/camp and I have not found a better replacement. I love it... I wore my first one out... tried some others... now i'm goin' back and gonna buy another Twilight.

Every other manufacturer should look at this kit... there is nothing else like it... Super stable in the wind... tons of room... easy-breazy to set up... and light as heck. The dual vestibules offer great convenience... and here's the thing... they are low to the ground which keep wind out as well as rain. It's a brilliant design.

For the money... get one. Get two. There is nothing like it.

is this a good winter tent or wind tent?

This is a 3-season tent. If you are looking for something that will withstand the weather and keep the cold out during the winter, you would be better off going with something that is 4-season.

How many guide line points are on this tent this it come with the guideline rope?

Yes, all of our tents come with enough guy lines and stakes for average use. The tents are also built with even more stakeout points that can be used in severe weather.

What do you guys recommend the twilight or firefly?
