Backpacker 3/06 Twilight 2P

Best Buy

This tapered dome is “the best all-around two-person, three-plus-season tent we’ve seen for roominess, weather-resistance, and practicality,” our testers concluded after trips through the Everglades, Glacier, and Big Bend, where it stood up to 30 mph winds. Twin entrances make for easy exits, and the large vestibules offer beaucoup room for packs and wet gear. The mesh ceiling ventilated well on steamy, wet nights, but nylon side panels lower down kept wind and sand at bay during gusty storms.

Reviews and comments

Hye,
Living in France, would like to know if I have to buy your tent from a french retailer?
Do I get an interest to get it directly from you?
Thanks,
C.F

This is simply the best tent I have ever used. I just finished a 3 month bicycling tour of the UK and it performed flawlessly. Thank you again Marmot.

It's really a shame that after only 3 times of usage one of the poles has cracked in one of the joint ends during normal use. Other than that it's been a great tent. Would appreciate if you could let me know how to get the pole replaced. Thanks

Please contact our Warranty Department. They will take care of the pole for you. Click on the link at the bottom of this page to go to their site.
Thanks

I need a gear loft and footprint...can I purchase these seperately? If so, what is cost?

I bought the tent just a while ago, but it had the wrong tent poles.. they must have been from the 3p tent because the form was right but the inner tent could not be attached to the poles without damage to the tent.

Well I made a reclamation, and I think it will be alright, but I just wanted to let you know. Otherwise, I'm a great fan of Marmot products and the tent seems very nice otherwise.

This tent is a great performer. I use it for backpacking trips and weekend casual camping. Its small/light enough for the former and roomy enough for the latter. Survived 4 season weather, including torrential rains, without a problem. Not to say this is a winter tent, but it worked in a pinch along with my other winter gear.

The only downside is that I bought this tent before a gear loft and footprint were available. Now, they are bundled as a package and no one seems interested in unbundling. Perhaps Marmot could help here? Even a pattern of the OEM footprint would be appreciated.

Same problem here. I bought the tent from a retailer before the footprint and gear loft were included. Up until now I have done without but I would love to have them for when my pack weight is not an issue.

Great tent, very versatile at a good price. I love the tent without the rainfly, breathes well and you can see the stars but still enough cover to keep you from feeling completely exposed. The rainfly works well, the window is very convenient and the large vestibules with large openings are nice as well, though they can be a little hard to close completely from inside and I haven't found a way to keep the vestibule door rolled open. it stayed dry in rainy conditions and even though there was some condensation on the rain fly inside, non came in the actual tent. It was easy enough to set up, getting the rain fly straight and tacked on was a little hard though. The fit inside is kinda tight for two, with not much room for packs inside though there are a plethora of pockets inside and a good overhead storage area. Overall, a great choice for a versatile two person tent!

*** You can keep the vestibule doors open by attaching the adjustable cord on the inside of the rainfly to the out side loop on the rainfly. Just look carefully around the vestibule doors to find them. I also agree this is a incredible tent.

Bought the tent a year ago and it has served well -- even in very wet conditions. However, thus far I've still to figure out how to attach the rope, the aluminum cylinder and the tiny plastic piece that come with it. So, on windy conditions (>20m/s) I've just used a regular rope to tie the tent down.

Pretty awesome tent.

Had this tent for about 6 months now, and love it every time I use it. It's seen everything from uneventful, warm, spring nights on the east coast, and torrential thunderstorms with hail in the mountain west plains of Wyoming. This tent is deceptively spacious. Two people is totally comfortable; two people and a medium sized dog started to feel like a real outdoor experience. Vestibules are ginormous, and keep all your gear dry and protected. The double doors are super convenient. Some friends and I went camping in a strong windstorm and people were practically bidding to stay in my tent. Sure enough, the other tent pretty much folded in half; the Twilight barely even shook.

I continue to really like this tent, but have settled on what I think is it's biggest flaw: the fly zippers. The "wings" give you a lot of vestibule volume, which is great. However, since the zipper is at a low angle relative to the ground, it's really hard to get the zipper all the way down from *inside* the tent. It will involve leaning way out of the tent, and into the fly (not good if it's raining, etc).

Still, I love it and find it super roomy.

I just ordered this tent from moosejaw after reading a ton of great reviews about it. I just had a general question: how should I store this tent (or any tent)? Just in it's stuff sack?

Just bought the Twilight 2. Love the tent. The stake bag came with a six inch orange hollow tube. What is it for? I see the two that are sewn into the roof vents. Is this a spare. Also, do you clip the tent to the footprint buckles or the rainfly to the footprint buckles? Do the tent poles fit into the tent strap holes AND the fly strap holes? Tent only took a couple of minutes to set up...still not sure if I have the rainfly/footprint on correctly. Also in the stake bag were two three or four foot "strings". I used them to stake out the ends of the rainfly for airflow.

good tent, moderate weight, good water repelency, and can be packed smaller than the spec size if you do it right. the bare bones option is really nice to have. One complaint, kind of a big complaint. the vestibule zipper is very poorly designed. it goes straight down to the anchor point, so it's VERY far away, and when the ground is wet (the floor is dry!) but my arm gets all wet trying to reach the stupid zipper. And then the rain comes right in the vestibule as it's flapping in the wind. I really like this tent, and i love the big vestibule, but I would really love if the re-design had vesti-zippers in the style of the Half dome 2. Then, this would be a pretty darn awesome tent.

This tent has changed the way we spend our summer weekends. Thank you - it has sheltered us on numerous islands. No quarreling when setting it up!

Last Saturday we came to our destination a little late and it was already dark. We woke up early in the morning, in a pool of rain water. Our Marmot stood the test - we moved it to a dryer place, slept a couple of hours more and woke again in a dry tent.

I think that this is a great tent for the money! I only think there is a design flaw with the doors. When you open the vestibule door it hangs directly in front of the tent door. The tent door zips oposingly from the fly which can be slightly frustrating but not a huge deal. Otherwise I am very happy with it.... great construction, awesome interior, easy setup, cozy and the window rocks!

I have put this tent through its paces over the past year and it has performed flawlessly. I used it on a two week trip in Denali and on several 2-4 day backpacking trips throughout Michigan.

This tent kept my partner's and my gear dry in severe thunderstorms and kept us cool on hot days. The vents and massive vestibules are great features.

I set up the rain fly with the footprint a few times to get out of the rain and 3 of us were able to huddle inside with our gear to wait out the storm.

The only thing wrong with the tent is the vestibule door design. I have yet to come up with a method for getting in and out of the tent in the rain without getting water inside.

I have read the reveiws and think it is a great tent!
