Is the hood insulated on the Trient jacket? I cannot tell from the picture or item description. Thanks!

Just visited sun & ski sports to check this jacket out. Yes, the hood is insulated in the same way as the jacket.

Just moved to Michigan from San Diego and was looking for some warmer layers as I venture into my first winter. Bought this jacket in black, and it looks as good as it is toasty. I'm 6'2 200lbs, and the large fits great w/enough room for layers unerneath. Highly reccomended. Infact my buddy just bought one after he tried mine out.

is the trient helmet compatible??

Just bought this jacket. It is great. Very light weight and VERY warm. I was outside in blizzard like conditions. 45 - 55 mph wind gusts. 23 degrees with only had a t-shirt as a base layer was perfectly warm. Had the hood on a my hat and nothing else. I would reccomend this jacket to anyone.

Bought this jacket before winter rolled in and I'm glad I did. It keeps me warm and the adjustable hood is great. It's constantly windy here and it rains a bit, so this jacket is perfect for the climate. It fits great as well.

does anyone know what the little flap (with velcro on it) near the thing to hang it up is? (when the jacket was new it was hiding inside the little pocket near said hanger) we cannot figure it out to save our lives!

As a matter of fact, I just stumbled upon this flap today after having bought it yesterday. If you notice on the back of the hood, there is an insert for this flap to attach to. I folded the hood over itself multiple times and used the flap to keep the hood from unraveling itself. Now you have a jacket with a hood that is in a sense folded up. Hope this helps. I love this jacket.

The Trient is my first serious cold weather jacket as I'm very warm blooded. This jacket is amazingly functional and very, very warm. Per one of the other recommendations, you only need a t-shirt or other small layer under the Trient, regardless of the winds and temperature.

Is the gargoyle for of a gray color or silver? Is it shiny at all?

The gargoyle color is like a mix of matte and shine and is more gray. Go to the REI website to check out really good pictures that show you what I mean. You'll love the color!

hi my name is carlo i live i york maine and it dose not get above 30° in the winter and it is great for that, the only thing is that the zippers are hard to work.

I think marmot can do a better video than that, hard to hear the audio....

Looking at this jacket to replace my current marmot jacket (8yrs old and lost waterproofing) i ski mostly VT, looks like it will keep me warm..how will it hold up to the occasional tree branch?

Beautifully made jacket. I'm 5'10", 165. The medium is a little too tight across the chest and shoulders, although arm length is fine. Going to exchange for a large, as the torso isn't roomy enough for much layering. The Eclipse is a gorgeous blue, the fabric feels sturdy, has a lovely texture and is quite light and supple, although the zippers are a bit stiff.
The idea a tee shirt is all you'll ever need under it is silly. Although cozy, there's only an inch of loft. I'm a warm-blooded Vermonter, and on an 18 degree dog walk last night with a tee shirt and light fleece I could feel the cold seeping in after five minutes, which is to be expected. But with a warm baselayer and 300 weight fleece or down sweater this would easily take me below zero and keep me dry winter camping.
The insulation in the Cauldron Hoody, another fine jacket, feels somewhat thicker and was slightly warmer on the same dog walk moments later (happy dog: "again again! Let's try ALL your coats!") ). But you don't need to throw a shell over the Trient when it starts to snow, sleet or rain.

I bought this jacket in the early fall in preparation for the Minnesota winter and this jacket has performed admirably. It's waterproofing worked well for the snow/ice/rain that we experience. The insulation in this is WARM (almost to warm). I was comfortable walking the mile to work every day even when it was well below 0(F). The insulated hood is also a plus as I never had to wear more than one hat to keep my head warm.

Excellent Jacket.

I purchased this jacket as a warm winter rain coat to be used here in the Pacific Northwest. I'm always cold in the winter and felt this would be good to wear after a cold, wet cyclocross race or just standing outside waiting for lunch at my favorite food cart.
I tried it at a local shop but when I went back to buy it they had sold out, so I purchased it online at backcountry outlet.
After two days of wearing the thin fabric on the velcro cuffs began to fray! I'm stunned. HOw can this jacket last if the fabric falls apart so quickly? It seems like such a nice thoughtfully made piece. I love the warm hood (the visor is perfect), the fit is great and the thing just looks handsome. I will say that the zipper is in fact a pain to start and it snags on the inside material like people have said.
I'm wondering if I should return this or warranty it? I can't imagine it will last, and I'm truly sad about that.

Gianni, thank you for your comment. Please send your Trient Jacket in to our warranty department for evaluation. Thanks!

Skiing and living in the Trient Jacket. Warm, light, breathable to be sure. Excellent (large) micro-fleece lined hand warmer pockets, and catch all inside pockets large enough for skins, or goggles, to wine bottles. Yes, I said that.
Skied Thanksgiving weekend in a lightweight zip t neck and the Trient. My friend was cold and had an insulated jacket, vest, hoody etc. She couldn't believe I was comfy in 20 f weather.

Excellent look and feel. Nicely done Marmot!
