M2
Marmot M-series fabrics are designed for moving light and fast. They combine stretchable, water repellent, abrasion resistant and highly breathable shell materials with insulating buffer materials on the inside.
M2 shells are the ideal balance between weather resistance, breathability and thermal protection. They are appropriate for a wide range of aerobic use in moderate to cold conditions.

WINDSTOPPER®
WINDSTOPPER® Soft Shells offer total windproofness and maximum breathability, combining the comfort of a soft mid-layer and the water resistance of a shell in one garment. WINDSTOPPER® Soft Shells keep you comfortable and provide the freedom of movement you need for enhanced performance in a wide range of activities and weather conditions.
Constructed of soft, quiet, stretchy fabrics, WINDSTOPPER® protects your body’s warmth from the chilling effects of wind and weather and prevents overheating and perspiration build-up by allowing moisture vapor to easily escape. The unique WINDSTOPPER® membrane totally stops wind from penetrating the fabric while allowing moisture to escape unhindered for 2X more breathability than comparable windproof products.
With this 3-layer construction, the WINDSTOPPER® membrane is bonded between a high performance fabric such as robust, high-quality stretch polyester on one side, and a quick-drying polyester fleece on the other. The durable water repellent finish offers additional weather protection.
Designed for an active fit, WINDSTOPPER® performs well in outdoor activities, such as hiking, backpacking, cycling, hunting, mountain sports, skiing, snowboarding and trekking in weather conditions, including: strong winds, light snow and rain.

How will this jacket be cut? Fitted or relaxed for layering? I own an older super hero which is cut pretty slim (which I prefer).

Had mine for 3 or 4 years, and love it.

Had mine for 4 or 5 years and I love it. It always amazes me how warm it is. Mine is bright orange and is perfect for winter cycling here in Calgary. The hood is generally off as it doesnt really fit comfortably in the collar.

The Super Hero is the best fitting jacket I have ever worn. I am 5'9" and 150 lbs and the medium fits perfectly. There is more than enough room for my Patagonia Cap 3, even something heavier, all without any baggy fit.
The construction is very well done and the jacket does a good job keeping you warm and dry. I don't mind the price one bit.
The only criticism I have of the Super Hero is they could have added a thin mesh liner for the entire inner. Unless you are wearing long sleeves, which you probably should be anyway, the fabric seams tend to irritate my arms. This is a very small flaw I came across when I grabbed the jacket on my way out in a rain storm.
Other than that, the Super Hero is the bees knees.

I'm 5"10, 170lbs and the medium fits me perfectly!! I really can't say enough about this jacket. I wear it Fall, winter, and some of spring. I've had it for 3 years now, and it still looks new.....by far, the best jacket I have ever owned!

My question is similiar to the last post. How does the jacket fit/how is is cut? Is it form fitting, or boxy? I am 5'5 but built, so I would rather it be form fitting than boxy or baggy. For anyone who has this jacket, what are you thoughts?

I got mine 2 days ago. I like the construction of the jacket. I'm 5'7 and 170lbs. More on the built side and mediums fits me perfectly.

Is the hood helmet-compatible?

No , it is not.

I bought my Super Hero this Xmas (2010), for use in Scottish winter mountaineering and in the French Alps for snowshoeing. Having worn this and a base layer (or 2) in -10 degs C and 30 mph wind in Scotland, I was amazed at how warm I was, and that no icy wind penetrated. Coupled with an outer Gore-Tex layer for the most severe conditions I was kept toasty and most importantly comfortable. Great jacket, looking forward to testing it in the Alps over the next month or so.

I'm comparing this to the ROM and I'm still not sure what the difference is. Both seem to use the same materials with the same pocket placement and a removable hood on the Super Hero. Then there's the Vertical which appears to be a colder weather version of the Super Hero for less money. What exactly are the reasons for the higher price of the Super Hero?

I've recently got one of these jackets. As is normal with Marmot it is brilliant. However can anyone tell me if you can pack the hood away. It is described as having a tuck away hood but I can't see how to do it....
on 2/8/11.
First, flatten the collar and hood. Then, starting at the top of the hood, fold or roll it toward the zipper. Once you can't fold or roll it any further, you should be able to tuck it inside the zippered compartment in the collar. Rolling will probably produce a bulkier collar.

To those asking about cut it is fitted athletic (with real full length sleeves!) if you're built in XL. I am 230 and wear 48"C. I wear the SH with a thin base and an Icewear wool windproof sweater in really ugly stuff. The jacket just seems to comfortably stretch around it all. It is so light and while the hood may not suit those needing helmets, for those who don't its great. I cinch it down and it turns with your head/neck. I wore it yesterday in 15 degree windchill 30-40 winds with only a cotton waffle underneath, was walking/running the dog. Not too cold and no sweating. It moves much better and is much more breathable then any of my other shells.
