M1

Marmot M-series fabrics are designed for moving light and fast. They combine stretchable, water repellent, abrasion resistant and highly breathable shell materials with insulating buffer materials on the inside.

M1 shells provide the highest level of warmth and thermal protection. They are best for intermittent aerobic use in cold conditions.

WINDSTOPPER®

WINDSTOPPER® Soft Shells offer total windproofness and maximum breathability, combining the comfort of a soft mid-layer and the water resistance of a shell in one garment. WINDSTOPPER® Soft Shells keep you comfortable and provide the freedom of movement you need for enhanced performance in a wide range of activities and weather conditions.

Constructed of soft, quiet, stretchy fabrics, WINDSTOPPER® protects your body’s warmth from the chilling effects of wind and weather and prevents overheating and perspiration build-up by allowing moisture vapor to easily escape. The unique WINDSTOPPER® membrane totally stops wind from penetrating the fabric while allowing moisture to escape unhindered for 2X more breathability than comparable windproof products.

With this 3-layer construction, the WINDSTOPPER® membrane is bonded between a high performance fabric such as robust, high-quality stretch polyester on one side, and a quick-drying polyester fleece on the other. The durable water repellent finish offers additional weather protection.

Designed for an active fit, WINDSTOPPER® performs well in outdoor activities, such as hiking, backpacking, cycling, hunting, mountain sports, skiing, snowboarding and trekking in weather conditions, including: strong winds, light snow and rain.

I love this jacket. I bought it not knowing how much I was going to need it. I went skiing in North Carolina and when we got there the temp was -18! With 25mph wind gusts and snow think as anything I stayed well warm. I had a base layer, mid layer and this as my outer layer and I stayed toasty and dry when going down the slopes. Great jacket. gotta love marmot

I bought a new Sharp Point jacket to replace my aging (5-6 years) Sharp Point jacket and sadly, you've changed the material and cut to the point that I had to return it. The original was the best jacket in the entire history of jackets and I am bummed not to be able to replace it. Some constructive feedback:
It has always been hard to put the SP on over fleece or cotton garments due to the interior surface of the material - previously though, the arms and torso had more volume to accommodate the friction between the two surfaces. I also found that the old material in the shoulders and arms had more "structure" to it and less tendency to look like a sack of potatoes. And really, who do you think wants "WINDSTOPPER" written across their back?

You guys make great stuff - I couldn't be happier with my SP jacket. Wish I could buy a new one.

Nice points, but I will very respectfully disagree - although I think it all depends on how you use this jacket (and it sounds like I'm using it differently). I wear this under a light jacket under a pack, so I appreciate the tailored fit through the arms and chest. Lots of extra material there in other jackets always feels awkward to me (using it the way I do). I suspect the change in the feel of the shoulder support is to allow more ROM with the athletic fit. Point is, if you want to use this OVER bulky layers, then maybe go up a size or with a different jacket (Marmot, of course). If you wear this underneath, closer to the base, then buy your normal size and I don't think you'll be sorry. My only con (very subjective) is that i prefer the chest pocket on the outside. I have to unzip the jacket to get at my stuff now. BUT the designers were probably thinking more about wind and water-proofness there by putting it inside, which is probably worth the inconvenience for me in the long-run. I LOVE this jacket!

This is probably your top seller. Even stores that don't carry your hard shells are selling these. And, perhaps you just wanted to make a half-townie-half-outdoorsman jacket hybrid. But there are some fine points that need to be brought back. 1- double slider. No true softshell (made for climbing or trekking) is complete without one. 2- neck cinch... it's a windproof jacket, in theory, so make it windPROOF. The neck is such a critical area, and if versatility is the objective, let people use it without heavy midlayering underneath.

I got this jacket 2 years ago and it was my intro to Marmot gear. I was amazed how warm and dry I stay in this jacket. It has to get pretty cold before I put anything more than a t-shirt on under it. I wear it when its below zero with just a sweater underneath and do just fine all winter or just open the vents and its great in warmer weather. This is the most versatile soft shell I've ever come across.

Surprisingly warm and a great fit.

Just got this jacket for a sick price and couldnt be happier with it so far. I am 5'8 and 1/2 and about 165 pounds with an athlete turned Dad build and the Medium fits perfect, maybe an inch long on the sleeves if I were nitpicking. I really need to take it on a winter weekender at least to see its true colors, but early on I am stoked about this coat. I also have a Marmot Precip jacket and pants and love them too. Marmot is becoming my go-to for outdoor gear.

I'm torn between buying the Sharp Point or the ROM for snowshoeing in Massachusetts & New Hampshire. Any ideas or info? Thanks in advance.

I don't own the jacket but am interested in buying both as well. It depends on what you want in a jacket. The Sharp Point is more heavy duty, water resistant, windproof, and warm than the ROM. It has pit zips while the ROM does not. The ROM is more breathable, still keeps out the wind, and has a hood, so again it depends on what you want...If it were me though, I'd go with the Sharp Point :)

I purchased this jacket this past December, and I couldn't be happier. I'm similar in stature to the commenter above (5'8", 175lbs, reformed wrestler/hockey player) and it fits like a dream. It performed just as advertised on a windy weekend in Joshua Tree National Park. It was well worth the $$$ I paid, and then some. The quality of this jacket and other Marmot gear has quickly made me a devotee, and I always look to buy gear from Marmot first.
