Down
From the beginning, down has been Marmot’s foremost insulator. No synthetic surpasses the lightweight, compactability and longevity of down.

Marmot Down DNA:
Down is in our DNA. Marmot was founded in 1974 as a manufacturer and seller of premium quality down jackets, vests and sleeping bags. To this day we only use the finest quality certified goose down for our down insulated outdoor products. Mountaineers and outdoor enthusiasts worldwide rely on Marmot down gear for warmth, comfort, and sometimes survival.
Marmot Down Quality:
Down quality is determined by fill power and durability which is dependent upon the age/maturity of the bird and the processing of the down. The best down comes from larger, more mature birds and goose down is better than duck down (when age/maturity are equal). More mature goose down has larger filament clusters than less mature goose down. These clusters, when grouped, provide many more trapped air pockets and therefore provide better insulation. To maximize the effectiveness of the down clusters, the proper processing of the down (sorting, washing & drying) is required to open them up.
Higher fill power means higher loft, better insulation, lighter weight, and greater durability. We test all of our down for content, cleanliness, species, and fill power. We guarantee minimum fill power for all of our down clothing and sleeping bags. That means, for example, that our 800 fill sleeping bags are guaranteed to have at minimum 800 fill power. We don’t believe in + or – variation when it comes to comfort.
Down Origins:
Down is the light, fluffy undercoating at the base of the feathers of waterfowl. Down is a multi-dimensional structure that insulates by creating pockets of still air that retain body heat. Down is highly breathable and exceptionally comfortable. Pound for pound, high quality down is the most efficient natural insulator there is.
Geese are raised primarily for food and the down that is derived from them is a by-product of the food industry. Geese are raised on large and small farms and roam free outside on these farms. This is their natural environment. They are not raised indoors in controlled conditions. Geese are grain fed and also have access to local plant life.
Geese are generally harvested after 4-9 months for food. Some female geese are kept for breeding stock and are harvested between 1-2 years. These are the geese called the “mother birds” that provide the best, most mature down. After the geese have been harvested for food, the down and feathers are removed, washed, dried and then sorted by separating the down and small feathers from the larger, heavier feathers. These processing methods determine the final quality and fill power of the down. Marmot currently buys down primarily from Russia, Poland & China.
Marmot Guaranteed For Life:
Since 1974 we’ve guaranteed every product we’ve made for the life of the product. We believe the best thing for everyone and the environment is to make products that last.

How is the fit of this down jacket? I have the ama dablam and love everything about it except that it isn't waterproof or even water resistant/ repellent at all! I wish marmot would make one that was waterproof because I think everyone who has it would want it to be waterproof too.

TOTALLY awesome. The best jacket I've ever owned. The outer shell is durable, delicious, stylish, and comfortable. The 650 fill/MemBrain combo is an ideal way to beat the wind/snow/cold. I keep toasty in -10 deg F at the dog park and not too hot inside my truck on the way to work. The hood was the biggest surprise to me...it is down insulated as well AND removable, BUT the best part it how well it snuggles to your head without loss of visability or comfort. Totally worth every penny OR more...Marmot lifetime warranty puts my frugle mind at ease...so much so that I bought my wife a Ama Dablam down jacket for her birthday. Good job Marmot!!

TOTALLY AWESOME. The best in function, style, warmth of any jacket I've worn! Worth every penny! The hood is down insulated and snuggles your head without loss of comfort or visability = PERFECT! This jacket keeps you taosty in -10 deg F dog walks and is still comfy on my long truck comute to work. This jacket rocks...it is a steal for $275! Good Job Marmot!

Like the jacket, love the pit zips. Personally I think every jacket should have pit zips. Two things i'd add would be a bottom zipper for some more comfort when sitting down. And add a synch cord on the collar. Other than those two things, really like the jacket. The cut works really well for me and i like all the little features that Marmot put in.

No Complaints with this jacket. It fits perfect, is very warm, and looks great. The removable insulated hood is the best. I was originally looking at a North Face down coat and found this as a better alternative since the Marmot has the Membrain and was cheaper. You will not be dissapointed! Thank you Marmot for making my outdoor adventures more enjoyble!

Great Parka! I bought mine for skiing here in Colorado. Even when the lift drops you off at 12,500' in the wind you are not cold at all. Great fit and the fabric is durable. After a season of skiing still looks new and the yellow color is awesome when the visibility drops.

I bought a North Face McMurdo, which was significantly more expensive but it didn't feel well made in several areas. After buying the Marmot Shadow I sent TNF jacket back.
This Shadow jacket is great in lots of ways. Well made, nice features and - apparently - waterproof, though I have yet to test it out.
The only issue for me is that it's not black. It's says its black, it's listed everywhere as a black jacket but as soon as you get it you can clearly see that it's dark navy blue with black patches on the arms and along the sides.
This is a problem for me, as I don't know what to do. I love the jacket but wanted black like it was advertised as being. Sigh.. Sent three jackets back already but why pay so much for something that's not as advertised.. Please marmot.. if you advertise a black jacket - at least make it black. Not hard. If you did I'd give it 5 stars because it's well made.

This is one of the best jackets I've owned, super warm and light. The jackets fits like a glove along with the insulated hood. Marmot all the way, you can't go wrong with this jacket. Great job Marmot, keep up the good work.
