M3
Marmot M-series fabrics are designed for moving light and fast. They combine stretchable, water repellent, abrasion resistant and highly breathable shell materials with insulating buffer materials on the inside.
M3 shells are the most breathable in the M-series. They are best for high aerobic use in mild conditions.
Out There Spring 2009 Scree Pant
Love ‘Em!
Two words: Love ‘Em! You might notice the comfort of these hiking/scrambling pants right off the bat by the ‘driclime’ liner for your hand, which wicks moisture away but also keeps your fingers warm. Here’s just one example of the way Marmot builds their gear for guides and outdoor enthusiasts with their needs thoughtfully in mind. For climbing, trekking, hiking, scrambling, or just walking around town, here’s “one stop shopping,” pants-wise at least. You get a soft shell pant that gives you stretchiness, breathability, and durability. But above all, you get a good-fitting pant that’s not too snug, not too loose. These soft shells should be good from spring to late fall. Perhaps with a little underlayer, the Marmot Scree pants could be versatile enough even for those really cold snow-shoe treks. – Joel Lycklama
Gripped 4/5/08 Scree Pants
Most Function-Focused Pant
The Scree Pant is the most function-focused pant in the review and a perfect choice for backcountry cragging – think Canadian Rockies. Using a stretchy softshell fabric, the Scree pants deliver weather protection and complete freedom of movement in challenging climbing environments. A small Velcro thigh pocket securely holds a topo and zippered cuffs accommodate beefy boots during the approach. Elasticized waist panels and belt loops ensure the pants stay put even when carrying a heavy pack. The Scree Pant is a good choice for climbers venturing away from crowded local cliffs.
Trail 11/08 Scree Pant
Very Good Pair of Trousers
It’s good. This is an excellent price for a very good pair of trousers. The fabric is a four-way stretch material that allows loads of freedom of movement, which is ideal for climbing, mountaineering or just clambering over a stile. The waist is an elasticated design with belt loops and a zip fly. The lower leg has a zip extending to the ankle cuff, which is useful for fitting the trouser over a ski boot or high-cuffed mountaineering boot. The ankle cuff also gets a drawcord adjuster. The pocketing is good with a dedicated zipped map pocket on the leg, which is very useful. There are also two deep pocket hip pockets that are great for the hands. A rearzipped pocket completes the features. Superb trousers for the price, and well worth a closer look. - by Graham Thompson
Climber 3/09 Scree Pant
Modern Mountain Trousers
This uses Marmot’s own M3 soft shell fabric. This is the most breathable and therefore the least weather resistant of their soft shell range, which might perhaps limit its four-season usability. However, you could also argue that with a base layer underneath and a waterproof shell over the top, it actually makes it more versatile! What is not in doubt though, is the value that this trouser offers. You get a tough, stretchy, breathable and reasonably weather resistant trouser with four adequately sized pockets, and a gusseted lower leg to go over ski and mountain boots. In other words, virtually everything you need in a mountain trouser, and the fit is neat too. You may want a more weather resistant pant for winter but otherwise, very hard to fault. – Jez Portman

Superb Trousers for the Price
Very good trousers at an excellent price. The fabric has four-way stretch, which allows loads of freedom of movement, ideal for climbing, mountaineering or just clambering over stiles. The waist is elasticated with belt loops and a zip fly. The lower leg has a zip extending to the ankle cuff, which is useful for fitting the trouser over a ski boot or high-cuffed mountaineering boot. The ankle cuff also gets a drawcord adjuster. The pocketing is good with a handy dedicated zipped map pocket on the leg. There are two deep zipped hip pockets that are great for the hands, while a rear zipped pocket completes the list. Superb trousers for the price, and well worth a closer look. Verdict: For the price, these are ideal for mountain walking, scrambling and mountaineering, but more cash brings even better performance.

TRANSCRIPT:
Hi I’m Fabrizio Zangrilli, Marmot Athlete Team Member. I’m out here today in Rocky Mountain National Park on Flat Top Mountain with my friends Tom and Elizabeth. As you can see we’re doing a lot of aerobic exercise, training for K2. Ski touring I think is one of the best forms of training. Really gets your heart pumping, using your lungs, and the other benefit is with your arms and the poles. When you’re jumaring rope on a mountain like K2 where I’m leading a commercial expedition to in two months, you spend a lot of time jumaring; it’s a lot of the same action. You’d better have strong triceps when you show up.
Well today I’m wearing a new piece from Marmot, the Mica Jacket. It’s as light as a jacket can get. Fully waterproof, fully taped seams, the Marmot MemBrain, Angel-wing movement – so I can use it for rock climbing as well. It’s for snow sports. I love it, it’s so light. And if it’s snowing like this if I’m standing around, you can put the hood up very easily as well.
The other thing I’m wearing today from Marmot are the Scree Pants. These are phenomenal pants, I’ve owned them about a year now and I’ve worn them probably 150 days. They’re very, very dynamic, so I don’t feel any restriction in my movement of legs. Certainly not when skiing, but also when climbing I can really high step very well. They have a side, a short side zipper – makes it easy for me to get my Scarpa F3 boots on. So, great for climbing and skiing. Cinch them down nice and easy. Well, a lot of good snow to ski, so thanks for watching.

Hey, I’m Fabrizio Zangrilli, Marmot Athlete Team Member, and I’m out in Colorado doing a bit of ice and mixed climbing today. It was pretty warm this morning, and sure enough it’s snowing a lot now. We’re supposed to get another huge dump of snow, which is great for building ice climbs for the spring.
So today I want to talk about the clothes that I’m wearing for mixed climbing. I chose the Minimalist Jacket, which is a Paclite® GORE-TEX® jacket. It’s great for deep ice and mixed climbing cause it’s very, very light. Has Angel-Wing movement so my hands are above my head when I’m swinging, the jacket doesn’t rise up on me. It’s fully taped; it’s got great pit zips – so on the approach here they were open and I didn’t overheat – and the jacket breathed well. It’s very, very lightweight as well, which I love. The hood – obviously it’s snowing a lot and I need my hood up; it accommodates a helmet really well. So, it fits perfect.
I’m also wearing the Alpinist glove today, with the GORE-TEX® Xtra-fit technology. These have become my workhorses and I love them.
The other product I want to talk about is my Scree Pant. It’s a soft shell pant and is very, very dynamic, which is awesome for the kind of mixed climbing that I’m doing today. There’s no constriction in my movement, and they are very breatheable. Underneath I’m wearing a lightweight long underwear and a power stretch long underwear as well. I’m perfectly warm, these are the ideal pants for today.
Well ... no time like the present. A little bit of a slog to the bottom of the climb, but … let’s get going.

TRANSCRIPT:
Hi, I’m Marmot Athlete, Christian Santelices here in Torres del Paine National Park in southern Chile, and I’m going to talk to you about a few things today. First off on top here I’ve got the Catalyst Jacket. It’s a DriClime jacket, so it’s got light fleece on the inside, and a nice windproof shell with a light waterproof finish on it. It’s wonderful for Patagonia where we get a lot of high winds. I’m nice and cozy in here. It’s got a nice chest pocket on the outside where I can keep small items, or it fits a passport really nicely for international travel. A really nice thing about this compared to the regular DriClime is that I have some nice hand pockets. And again these are fleece lined, so it keeps my hands warm. And also they’re really useful for holding onto different things in there.
On the bottoms here I have Men’s Scree Pant. This is a really great – both trekking pant for like what I’m doing right now – but also I’ve been using them a lot for backcountry skiing. It’s got really stretchy stretch-woven material. The pockets are nylon, which makes it really slippery so it’s easy to take your hands in and out even when you’ve got long underwear on underneath. They zip closed, so oftentimes I’ll wear my beacon in here and attach it to a belt loop. It’s got a nice cargo pocket on the side. And here in Patagonia that’s where I keep my little wallet where I have all my essentials. Fits in the nice and securely, out of the way. Some of the small details – don’t worry, this isn’t going to get weird – on the snap here, one of the things I really like is it’s got a little bit of Velcro. So after I go and climb one of the towers of Paine, and I go back to the ranch and have a huge asado, I don’t bust out of my pants. And that’s really important. So, I’ve also got down here – I can expand these open, if I need to get in and out, if I need to change pants or what have you, I can get these on and off over my boots. This material is stretchy enough that when I put on ski boots, these go right over my ski boots. I can stretch them right over without a problem. Another nice feature, on the inside, I’ve got a little piece of elastic and a cord lock – I can cinch that up a little bit and if it’s warm it helps keep my pants up, I’ve got some nice knickers now.
Underneath on the top I’ve got a nice baselayer here. Just kind of the classic t-neck shirt. Gives me good sun protection. Also is a little bit warmer and I can also vent really well. Another nice feature is I’ve got this small chest pocket so when I go for a run I can put my iPod in there. It doesn’t bounce around a lot. A really nice piece; a really good wickable fabric. So come on down and join us.

Hi, Mike Alkatis here of the Colorado Mountain School. We’re at Red Mountain Pass, next to McMillan Peak over there and Red #3 right there. We’re on a little guide’s training, and I’m wearing my trusty Scree Pants from Marmot. I really like them for ski touring; they’re lightweight, soft shell, breathe super well for when I’m aerobic, also keep the snow out. They have nice zippered pockets so I can put stuff in there – keep it safe and sound. Like what’s in this pocket … I think I have my iPod in here, you know; and I have my beacon in the side pocket right here. It zips as well – it’s key to have a zipped one if you’re going to put your beacon in there. Otherwise it might fall out, that’d be no good. And they also have this nice little feature where if you don’t have ski boots on you can zip this shut and it’s tighter. But with ski boots, you can unzip it, keep it over your ski boots. And … those are the things I like about the Scree Pant.

Are the Spring 2011 Medium Short Pants in Black already sold out?
I hope I'm mistaken. I've been waiting for months for the Spring Collection to come out...

I have looked sometime for a pair of comfortable pants for snowshoeing. I was elated when I discovered the Maramot Scree pant. They fit wonderfully, without the baggy leg so common to ski pants. The different inseams also respond to my shorter legs, so thank you many times over. They are light enough that I can wear them in spring winter conditions, or add long underwear during our normal Minnesota frigid weather. Once they are available again, I plan on adding a second pair to my wardrobe. Thanks, Maramot!

I can only echo the previous comments - essentially fantastic pants. Spent two days in 24 inch snow and stayed dry, warm, and comfortable with only a light Capilene layer underneath (the warmest temps on the whole trip were in the lower 20s). My new goto pants for so many occasions, I guess I need a second pair!

BOMBER pants! Got these for Rainier. I was confused as I thought trekking pants were softshell but NO! Wore them the entire trip I loved them so much. On summit day I simply added my base layer pants and was nice and warm despite the 60MPH gusts! Very impressed with the water shedding ability. YOU WILL LIKE THESE.

great pant, very warm, no base layer needed for aerobic activity. length and fit is fantastic I have a Large (not large long) and they are plenty long, i'm 6'2" 185lbs and usually get a >34" inseam, however the length is such that the regular was perfect. Great feel to these pant athletic, tough, and stylish. I wear them daily :)

I OWN 9 PAIRS OF MARMOT PANTS, AND 7 PAIRS OF MARMOT SHORTS. 3 OF THE PANTS ARE SCREE. THEY ARE WITHOUT A DOUBT, THE FINEST OF THE BUNCH. NOT ONLY IS THE COMFORT LEVEL OUTSTANDING, THE DURABILITY AND FUNCTION DESIGN IS TOP NOTCH IN MY BOOK. EVEN THOUGH THEY ARE DESIGNED FOR OUTDOOR USE, I FIND MY EVERY DAY USE OF THEM CAUSING MY LEVIS TO BE COLLECTING DUST IN THE CLOSET. KUDOS TO THE MARMOT GANG FOR THEIR CONTINUED QUALITY OF OUTSTANDING GEAR.

Great pants with just enough warmth for those questionable days in the hills when moisture and wind are probable.
The elastic bands on the cuffs are great for keeping scree out of boots.

Scree pant is best year round hiking pants, it breathe extremely well, very light, stretch and hugs body. It is extremely durable considering how light it is, and it stays dry during drizzle.
I have older model with velcro closer for side pocket which was only issue (cumbersome) but current has zippers which I find it to be exceptionally good.
Scree pant and Tempo jacket are my go to apparel for my hiking/trekking trips.

I bought these trousers some years ago and they have been terrific,,,, good and comfortable in all conditions. Due to chronic arthritis I've had to have both knees fitted with total knee replacements ,, these trousers have been invaluable during convalescence as they are supremely comfortable and did not bind my legs at all,,,,, now I'm wearing them again for walking out,,, terrific
If I could afford more then I'd buy more,,,,,in Wales and the UK they are so expensive!!

I really liked the pants, bought them this week to take to the Gros Morne Mountain, they did everything they were supposed to, my only complaint is that one of the pull chords on bottom of my right leg broke, is that covered? Im canadian so what do I do lol

Hy!
I have a scree pant soon a week.
I try it on the rock in Midle Europe in sunday. It's a great pant elastic and warm. I have it in andezit color. The pockets are enough hand warming. I have a medium size it is a bit lond but with my Zamberlan pelmo RR plus boots it is ready to ice climbing. If you are a medium and your legs are not so long then you buy the medium-short size.

When will you have medium short scree pants available? I have been looking for a few months and no luck. Will you be making any in dark grey or black again?
Thanks!

These pants are terrific. They have amazing freedom of movement and are great for climbing. I just got back from a 500 ft vertical "workout" on a local crag, and was really impressed with how much less energy I had to use as I moved. They stretch so well that high stepping was effortless, and I could move with much more ease than I can in my other climbing pants. Quite warm, too (it's November).
on 11/25/10.
I was looking for something for touring/cross country skiing. bought scree pants and couldn't be happier!
they are really soft and comfortable, don't get wet, don't let the wind in, don't make you overheat. and they fit well! for winter you need to add a layer, but that's a plus - you can choose the weight according to temperature, and they are not bulky.
around the ankle they are just narrow enough so they doesn't get in the way and get instantly dirty (or torn), but not too tight (and there is zipper, anyway).
I also wore them last summer on a windy windy pass, and they kept me warm and happy :)
