PreCip®

PreCip® is our “next step” technology that enables us to construct the lightest, most compressible, technical, waterproof and breathable rainwear in the world. Ventilated and breathable to keep you dry from the inside, PreCip® rainwear has plenty of pockets and custom fit features to keep you warm, dry and comfortable.

The new PreCip® coating is now more waterproof, more breathable and more comfortable to wear. We've added ceramic particles in the coating for added durability, waterproof reliability and Dry Touch comfort.

The key to PreCip® is its barrier technology: a microporous polyurethane that is impregnated with silicon dioxide particles. These particles create small, numerous, very consistent holes that allow the barrier to pass small water vapor molecules but not the bigger liquid ones. This keeps the rain out while letting your sweat vapor work its way outside, away from your body, to keep you dry from the inside as well as from the outside. PreCip® rainwear is compressible enough to stuff into a water bottle and comes in enough colors and styles to travel with you anywhere– to the mountains, the city or overseas.

The inside lining (white) of my precip jacket is peeling off after 1 year of very light use (I lived in the high desert). Now I am in Anchoarge and need the coat but the waterproof lining is peeling! I love the coat, especially when it was new and the outer didn't get wet either. Anybody else had this problem? How is the warranty dept? Should I send it in or just buy patagonia next time?

Send your PreCip jacket into our Warranty department for evaluation. Thanks!

Man , if you want real trouble go with patagonia, in my opinion Marmot is the best ,i have just about every kind of jacket, shirt pant ,from Arcteryx, patagonia ,northface, marmot, have been all over the world with these clothes ,from africa to the amazon and my marmot rain jacket is the only rain jacket i take with me , for the price it should have fallen apart years ago , lost just a little of it's waterproofness, but that is under extreme downpours in the jungle, best stuff made.

PreCip- do not leave without it! The advantage of the lightweight is that there is no excuse to leave it behind. The trade-off is that it will not take the wear and tear of the heavier jackets and pants. I recycle my old PreCip to under-car-seat back-up and get a new one as needed. My older PreCip Rim is heavier and still looks and function great, and the mango color still has people stopping me and wanting to buy it. Along with DriClime the lightweight raingear is mandatory.

I love my jacket!! I used my jacket on a couple of 14ers in CO in DEC, JAN, AND FEB. All i had on was thermals, marmot softshell and this jacket and it kept me perfect! It Kept out wind and water and I had no issues. I have used this in temps of 70 degrees and had no issues! This jacket can be used for just about any Anything!! I would recommend this to a friend!

P.S

Cant Beat the Price!

My jacket that I bought two years ago (just discovered that it is to the date May 3, 2009) is starting to delaminate the inside liner after very light use and I took good care of it.

Just contact our warranty department at https://warranty.marmot.com/

Great Jacket , the super light , breathes well and keeps you dry ! From sailing on Lake Erie long distance races to hiking Mt Washington NH .
This is always packed with my gear. And you cant get a better Warranty ! Marmot takes care of you !
I have 2 gore tex marmot Jackets. Great stuff and no
stupid logo on you back! just a quality product!

For the price, PreCIP can't be beat. I've had mine 3 years, and wore it primarily as a rain/wind shell over a heavy fleece to work during mild Dallas winters. I expected the waterproofing to wear down over time, but I wore it to flag football in the pouring rain today, slipped and wiped out several times and came up dry at the end of practice. Its probably a little delicate to wear as a ski or climbing jacket, but for anything else, I'd highly recommend it.

The Precip jacket is fabulous -- and if it delaminates they will take care it under the warranty. Just sent in my 2002 Precip for that reason, and have loved it and adventuring in it all these years in both rain and xc skiing. Looking forward to my new one, and loving the company that stands behind its products. Go, Marmot, Go!

This is the second time they've replaced a several-year-old jacket for me after warranty issues (other one was a different model), and we just bought a tent due to their great products and company responsiveness. I'm now a member of the Marmot choir -- "Buy Marmot!"

I backpack for a living. Decided to take on a seventy miler without a tent. Night came, and the temperature dropped to about thirty degrees. All I had was a base layer and my Precip. I huddled under a log and kept myself insulated and still until morning. The hypothermia nearly got me, but I pulled through to morning. My Marmot jacket save my life.

This jacket is awesome. I am a college student in milwaukee and went through a whole week of rains each day, and this jacket withstood all of the elements that were presented to it. Another feature I love, compared to rival brands, are the pockets. The pockets are mesh material allowing your hands not to get sweaty inside and for your hands to breathe easily. I also love the Peacoat color for my jacket. It has great versatility allowing you to look good with casual wear on, and look good while going to a business meeting. One of the best buys that i have ever made.

This is perfect for my hiking in So Cal. Can layer up for warmth and works great as a shell to pack where ever you go.

I have had my precip jacket for 5 years and it is now starting to delaminate around the neck area. Make no mistake, Marmot does stand by its products and will replace the jacket for such occurrences. The jacket is muey light weight and dependable. Sheds the rain and snow very well and is a great heat retainer in winter. Perfect for thru hikers as well. It is my go to jacket for any backpacking trip.

1) Absolutely Great when New.
2) Lasted me 3 years 4 months (Aug'08 - Dec'11).
3) Used mine for raining days in the city. Never did any trekking with it.
4) Local warranty for non-US/Canadian customers is none-existent. But if you can tell yourself it's disposable when it delaminates, cool!

I bought my PreCip jacket in Aug 2008, it was expensive then but it was great! Did everything the brochures, posters and salesman said. I live in Singapore and I wore it whenever it rained on my daily commute to/from work, on weekends and once in a Bangkok storm. It was the ultimate rain shield made for a mobility and I never doubted it's reliability with Marmot's' quality and assurance backing it until the laminates started to flake.

It flakes off with each wash and the seam tapes will peel. I turned to Marmot's webpage for support, I'm "International" so had to turn to the local distributor (incidentally, the shop I bought from). The staff at the shop was nice to point out that I was lucky to have stretched mine for over 3 years, I should have thrown away mine long ago. They won't replace it and Marmot's warranty only covers manufacturing defects (i.e. bad sewing, missing zippers etc). Delaminating and seam tapes peeling are not manufacturing defects but defects arising from personal use over time.

I did get options though:
a) Buy another Marmot jacket at 15% off List Price but I must hand-in my old PreCip (for them to claim warranty pool on the backend?) or,
b) I can buy a $30 bottle of water-repellent spray and make-do with my old PreCip.

Tested my new PreCip yesterday walking over 3 miles in a downpour.
Stayed dry under the jacket (soaked everywhere else).
Marmot rates 5 stars so far.

Great product!! Perfect!!

HOW DO I PACK IT INTO ITSELF?

1. Reach into the left pocket, grasp the mesh fabric, and pull the pocket inside out.
2. Stuff the jacket into the mesh pouch you just created.
3. The left pocket is equipped with a second zipper on the inside for closing the pouch.

What is best way to to get water proof ness back. After heavy rains seems to soak and the water does not bead anymore. Any treatments that can be used?

Dirt, oil and household detergents over time can mask the DWR (Durable Water Repellant) treatment.

We recommend Grangers cleaners and proofers, available at many outdoor retailers.

Hello,
The lining of my jacket is peeling and I want to know if there is something that I can apply to the exterior of my PreCip jacket that would rejuvinate the water repellancy.
This jacket is 10 years old, I have gotten great use out of it and never leave home with out it.

Thank you,

Bob

Grangers DWR treatment can restore water repellancy, even after 10 years.

Just bought my second Precip jacket. Paid a little more than possible as was in the High Tatras in Slovakia and needed lightweight rainwear. My first Precip took cramming into packs and duffles, left out in the truck in hot and subzero weather and frequent wear. It lasted 8 years before I gave up on it because the inner layer was cracked and peeling off by then. I would say I got my moneys worth and expect the same from my current jacket. I looked at a lot of other brands but quality issues or much less packability brought me back to this jacket.

I love this jacket! I recently discovered Marmot when I found the Precip at my local E.M.S.. Soon after, I spent a week on Katahdin. At one point, there was a raging down pour for about three hours, in which this jacket kept me dry and warm. Love the jacket and company and cannot wait to do business with them again.

I bought a PreCip jacket back in 2006 that lasted me until a couple weeks ago when I noticed that the inner lining was beginning to peel around the hood. That is six years of abuse that the jacket took like a champ. I did apply a DWR treatment once and it was starting to need it again at the end, but it definitely served me well. Everything from desert hail storms in New Mexico to pacific-northwest rains to Hawaiian tropical rains to a hurricane in South Louisiana - this jacket is just that awesome. When it did finally start giving out, Marmot warranty sent me a new one on the house! Six years later! Best customer service I have ever experienced in any industry. Props to the product, the support, and the company. Highly recommend this jacket and you can be sure that I will ALWAYS buy Marmot.

I recently bought a Marmot PreCip jacket and my spouse has been using one for over a year. I've reviewed the jacket and posted photos on Amazon but I wanted to make a comment directly to Marmot. A feature that isn't often mentioned is its ability to pack into its own pocket. The left front pocket has a webbing loop and double zipper that are clearly designed with this in mind. Neither the product home page nor the tag that was attached to the jacket mention it being packable but the Amazon page does. As a best in class packable jacket, I'd suggest promoting that feature; packability is a big reason why I bought it to use as a fly-fishing rain jacket.
