PreCip™
PreCip™ is our “next step” technology that enables us to construct the lightest, most compressible, technical, waterproof and breathable rainwear in the world. Ventilated and breathable to keep you dry from the inside, PreCip rainwear has plenty of pockets and custom fit features to keep you warm, dry and comfortable.
The key to PreCip™ is its barrier technology: a microporous polyurethane that is impregnated with silicon dioxide particles. These particles create small, numerous, very consistent holes that allow the barrier to pass small water vapor molecules but not the bigger liquid ones. This keeps the rain out while letting your sweat vapor work its way outside, away from your body, to keep you dry from the inside as well as from the outside. PreCip™ rainwear is compressible enough to stuff into a water bottle and comes in enough colors and styles to travel with you anywhere– to the mountains, the city or overseas.

A Necessity
A waterproof shell to keep the wet out, with a comfortable fit for easy layering when you need it.
Trail 11/08 Precip Jacket
Multi-Activity Jacket
The Precip is a modern classic, thanks to its great price and features that make it ideal for those traveling light and fast in almost any activity. The Precip is made from an extremely waterproof fabric, while mesh pockets and pit zips improve condensation control, which is worth having when biking or running. The front zip also gets a double stormflap to improve water resistance in the worst weather. The Precip is an average length for this type of jacket with a slightly scooped tail to protect the back when biking. Movement in the sleeves is very good and it’s easy to access to the two cavernous chest pockets while wearing a rucksack. The hood can be rolled into the collar, which is ideal for bikers, runners, and climbers, and on the head movement of the hood is good too. Verdict: If you’ve got just £70 to spend and want a lightweight jacket for running, biking, climbing and hiking this is great.
Trail 11/08 Precip
Multi-Activity Use
This has been a frequent favourite with Trail, thanks to its low weight of just 358g and its low price of just £70. But the Precip also boasts a superb set of credentials, being made from an extremely waterproof fabric, while mesh pockets and pitzips improve condensation control. The front zip also gets a double stormflap to improve water resistance. Put the jacket on and it offers an average length for his type of jacket with a slightly scooped tail. Movement in the sleeves is very good, and two cavernous chest pockets allow easy access to stored maps or guidebooks while wearing a rucksack. The hood can be rolled into the collar, so it is ideal for cycling, running or climbing, and its movement on the hood is okay. So, good in many ways for multi-activity use. Verdict: The Precip is definitely one of the best lightweight jackets around at its price, and it’s ideal for traveling fast and light in the outdoors.

Bought one of these in the UK £75.00 not the cheapest one but also not the most expensive either.
Does what it says on the label, light weight, water proof, breathable and the most important feature for me was very very compactable.
I took one to HK with me during the rainy season, high humidity and soaring heat - this jacket performed well. Kept me dry and most importantly let me breath - with the addition of pit-zips this improved the bearability of stickiness in the humidity
Excellent buy, would recommend any light traveller - keep it in the car, keep it in your pack - better than a umberella

I just received my second precip jacket and i'm just as pleased as the first. only thing I could give a gripe about would be the sizing availability. I wish Marmot would offer their tall sizes for the xxl and xxxl. us big and tall guys need waterproof/breathable garments!!!

Hey there! I just bought my Precip from a backwoods store, and the price was great compared to quality. I looked at other shells that were $150 to $400 and the Precip was still the performer. It's light, and the compressibility is superb. Before I was able to use it, I could tell the breathability of it just by rolling it up. It's truly an affordable, durable and superior waterproof rain shell. I am definitely going to buy more Marmot products in the future. Plus, this company hasn't been tainted by rich college kids who wear North Face and don't even know what a trailhead is. Thanks Marmot! -Joe St. Louis, Missouri

This is a good option

I've only worn the precip jacket in the rain once, but that was enough to tell me it is far better than what I was used to.
The fit was excellent, but what impressed me most was the hood. After I snugged the drawstring a bit, the hood turned with my head, so I didn't need to turn my whole body to look around. The bill stayed where it should, keeping the rain off, but not in my way or blocking my view.
I love it!

I worn this during winter outings down to -8F and it is magic in keeping the heat in, wind and snow out. Great!

The Precip is my constant companion! It keeps the cold wind out and is excellent in the wet. I'm 5'10" and wear a size 42 jacket with a 36" waist - the Large is a good fairly loose fit. Can wear a fleece under with no problem.
Not crazy about the way the hood rolls up and is sorta stowed in the collar. The only non-clever design for the whole jacket.
Winter or summer - this goes with me!

I bought my second Precip. The first one is going strong though there is wear at the collar - I guess after 8 years I should expect some wear! The jacket has been great, it is light and fully waterproof. Was caught in a horizontal rain storm on the Kilarney peninsula and this jacket kept me drier than much more expensive jackets kept some of my companions.
I wish there was an extra pocket for the gear we carry these days - cell, iPod, camera etc. It would make this jacket a no brainer for regular use. My first impressions of the new jacket are that the hood rolls up better (no wear on neckline); feel of the material is much improved, as are the smaller velcro tabs.
I am looking forward to some rain, just so I can test this jacket.

What's the weight of this jacket? And is it windproof as well as waterproof? About how small is it when fully compressed?
I'm looking for a super lightweight/compactable wind and rain shell to store in my pack incase I get caught in unexpected weather during summer hikes. I plan to keep a more stout shell (Marmot Mainline) for frequent use as I live in the Cascades. But I want something ultralight/compact for emergencies when I wont have dedicated gear, would you recommend the PreCip or a different model? Thanks.
on 4/19/10.
This is a high quality rain/wind jacket with nice material, but a couple gripes ---
1) Why is the the pack pocket mesh? It should be waterproof material too. If you pack this jacket into it's pocket, the inside lining of the jacket is exposed to rain and splatter .... not so good.
2) A thin mesh liner would add a lot of warmth with minimal weight or bulk and still be packable. I can't find another packable jacket with a mesh liner since my $35 nylon amazing all weather rain jacket ripped after 5 years hard use. With the Precip, when the temp drops below about 60, you'll be wishing you had more lining or brought a base layer too. With just a mesh lining it would be tolerable in the rain at 80 but warm enough at 45.
But still, it's a must have for any outing in case of rain or a sudden temp drop.

in march of 2008, i began my journey to fitness. prepared to buy another brand--i happened upon a marmot dealer and purchased my 1st piece of marmot gear. precip is most comfortable! warmth [over marmot 300wt polartec fleece], wicking, wind resistance and wearability.

I am looking at your Precip jacket and compairing it to other jackets on the market. I am concerned about how well the jacket breaths and sheds water. Question: What is the Water resistance rating and the Breathability rating.
on 4/30/10.
I really like this jacket a lot except the hood is a little small. I also have an older model of a marmot light weight hooded jacket that is no longer made, it's hood was perfect why they changed that I don't know, at least provide the option of a bigger hood. when they do let me know.

What is the length of this jacket?
on 7/9/10.
Please list the weight of this jacket in the description as you do for other models.
Also, us Northwestern University / University of Washington / Minnesota Vikings fans would love to see Marmot make a royal purple color for this jacket in the Mens style, so we can wear our team color and stay dry at the stadium.
