MemBrain® Strata™
Marmot’s own lightweight waterproof / breathable technology. A lamination technology that rates a whopping 20,000mm in waterproof performance and 20,000 gr in breathability.
Requiring neither lining nor 3-layer construction like many similar lamination processes, MemBrain® Strata™ products are by far the lightest, most breathable garments in their categories.
Marmot’s proprietary 2.5 layer MemBrain® Strata uses micro non-organic particles on the inside of the lamination to increase durability and provide a dry touch instead of that clammy feeling you get from some other products.
The back print pattern is carefully designed to achieve the maximum durability and breathability. Abrasion tests rate 4-5 times better than regular MemBrain® (which is why regular MemBrain, as well as all 2-layer laminates require a separate lining).
Compared to 2.5 layer coatings in the market, our 2.5 layer lamination is about 100% more breathable. In addition, laminated stretch fabrics stretch more and have a softer hand than 2.5 layer coated fabrics.
Out There Spring 2009 Oracle
Perfect Choice
The Oracle is the perfect choice for anyone looking for a waterproof, breathable and durable jacket for hiking, backpacking, or any other wet outdoor activity. The Oracle features ideally placed chest pockets, allowing easy access even while wearing a pack. The jacket also uses Marmot’s latest and greatest Strata MemBrain®. This MemBrain is highly waterproof yet breathable, and doesn’t require the usual liner or 3-layer construction most other waterproof breathable jackets need. This jacket’s hood also is removable or rolls away into the hood – both options great for active lifestyles, allows the hood to be out of the way of both your pack and your vision. If your present rain jacket is worn out or you just want to update your look, definitely check out this jacket in its many great colour options. – Phillip Hiom

I've got this jacket in the Cardinal / Fire combination and I LOVE it! Large fits me (M/5'10"/210) very well. Super breathable, lightweight, and very durable. I especially like how the hood is detachable, or you can roll it into the collar. I know it sounds stupid, but realistically I use this at least 3/4 of the time as urban wear, and it makes it more stylish while still being functional when I need it. I've got 3 or 4 other jackets from Marmot (all of which I've been very happy with), but this is my favorite!

My family has used Marmot brand clothing and jackets for a very long time, and the quality and durability is exceptional. I found this by accident just walking through the store & had to buy it. I LOVE this jacket!! It's so well made, and so functional in almost any environment it seems, I may never buy anything but Marmot brands again. Thank you so much for making such an amazing product!! (anyone want to buy my old jackets?... be warned, they are not Marmot brand!)

I was looking for a jacket that was as fashionable as it was functional and my search ended when I found the Oracle. I commute into the city of Chicago (a.k.a. the windy city) and this jacket is outstanding for combating the wind and rain. I love that the hood is detachable and rolls into the collar, the material is waterproof and the jacket itself is very lightweight. Not to mention the inside is loaded with features that I use all the time like the pockets, vents, drawstrings and the collar is lined with a very soft material that I love. Also, I was very impressed with the fit - I am about 6'4" 190lbs with an athletic build. I own a few Mountain Hardware and Northface jackets and neither of the two brands feel as good to wear as this one. I will probably never buy another brand again other than Marmot. Thanks Marmot!

I have had this jacket since 2003 and used it for everything from fishing in a down poor and staying dry to sunny camping days for UV protection. I love this jacket. One day I noticed that the liner was separating and sent it to see if it could be repaired. To my surprise they told me that this was warrantied and that I would get a new one. I miss my old jacket, but love my new one. I am 5'10"/170 lbs and like the fit of a M. I love this company and their products. Great customer service. Thanks

Great jacket, I got it for a utility jacket for to store in my pack when a rain shower came up. Its light, dry, and has an athletic fit and that's about all I can ask for.

I am a professional contract photographer that flies everywhere to photograph marathons and bike races all year round. The weather at 4:00 AM when I have to get out onto the course and prepare my equipment is not the same as when I finish my job around seven to 10 hours later when the last runner/ walker crosses the finish line. The Oracle jacket is the answer to my dreams! It packs right into one of my lens compartments in my camera bag and adds the perfect amount of layering to remain safe, dry and comfortable during a long day of extended standing and pounding out over 8,000 digital images. I got the highly visible Cayenne/ Beluga colors so that weary runners don't run into me if I have to shoot on the course. This jacket also is excellent for rock climbing as it is lightweight and windproof with Angel-wing movement that allows climbing and photography, while wearing weather protection to be a very comfortable situation. I never have to think about what I am wearing, just what I am doing while wearing this jacket. I have an older, much heavier Gortex Marmot Jacket that is over 20 years old now and it still an excellent foul weather jacket. GREAT STUFF!

Hey guys I'm thinking about getting this jacket to be worn over my my marmot gravity jacket (softshell) during the snowy winter months.
I don't plan on doing any serious snow activities, but need something for around campus to keep me warmer and to keep the snow from soaking into my gravity jacket.
Is this viable? I looked for reviews pertaining to this but couldnt find any...
on 11/7/10.
James,
This makes a perfect layer for staying dry and protecting warmer, non weatherproof layers.
If you get too warm, you can open the armpit zippers on the sleeve. You are thinking in the right direction.
This is the perfect layering jacket to keep everything underneath dry.
on 11/15/10.
Hey man, you would be better served by getting a fleece to go under your softshell than a rain jacket to go over the top of it. I have the Gravity as well, and know that it resists water for hours, and remember, during winter it's not going to rain, so a softshell is fine for weather resistance, especially because the Gravity is windproof. If you want to stay warm then layer underneath the softshell, not overtop of it. A softshell is supposed to replace a hardshell 95% of the time, and if you're using it on campus, it will suit you all winter long, providing you layer underneath when it gets really cold. I would suggest the Marmot powerstretch fleece jacket or the Marmot Variant jacket in the same size as your softshell for layering underneath as they will both combine with the softshell to be warm, and will slide well underneath.

Hey I just bought the jacket and think it would be a great shell for your jacket! You will love it, I guarantee it!
on 11/10/10.
I found your Traveler jacket to be just slightly tight in a Large. So if I want a somewhat roomy, but not baggy, fit in this will an XL be better?
I am 5'11", 210 lb, 17" neck, 45" chest, 35"dress shirt sleeve and 38" waist. I will wear some layers under this.

Great jacket! Bought it last winter, and put it to good use in many a snowstorm skiing-at areas and in the backcountry as well. Nice & lightweight, waterproof, versatile, keeps the wind out, and it breathes well too! What more do you want? Get one!! You'll be glad you did!
on 11/23/10.
After doing some research, I chose this jacket to buy for a rain shell. I am so impressed! This jacket is not only rain proof but wind proof as well. Very breathable fabric that is thin but durable. I wear it snow and anything else. I have had many comments on how stylish it is. This jacket has tons of features, from the pit zips to pockets in every useful place. The coller is lined with a very comfortable felt so the zipper doesn't rub your chin. A wonderful product. I am 6' 1", 150 pounds and a large is big enough to fit layers under.
on 12/4/10.
Hii!
Does this jacket includes lifetime warranty? I wan't to buy this model on ebay. So I wonder is it possible to return the jacket to Marmot, if something goes wrong in coming years.
on 12/9/10.
Stole, all of Marmot's products are under a lifetime warranty. Enjoy your new Oracle Jacket!

Is the Oracle abrasion-resistant enough for in-bounds and sidecountry skiing?
on 12/13/10.
I bought this jacket a few year's back and have banged it around Yellowstone, Yosemite and the Sierra's for spring skiing. It's my three-season go-to shell for the outdoors.

I have a Marmot Essence jacket and have fallen in love with the MemBrain technology. I now want a MemBrain jacket that is more suited to summer alpine routes. Does this jacket have a helmet-compatible hood and is the hem long enough to go under a harness?
on 1/21/11.
Bought this jacket as a shell for the 2009/2010 winter and love it. Used jacket during a hike, the entire hike, in the Ozarks during winter months. Had temps around 40 and non-stop down poor, and had no leaks, and breathed well. Was layered with a Marmot polartec powerstrecth shirt and was plenty warm. I am 6'2" and 200lbs and have a long torso and the XL fit perfect. I get tall sizes when I can but no need with this Jacket. Long story short; I love this jacket, and Marmot product, and highly recomend it.

My husband's favorite six year old Oracle jacket was wearing around the neckline, and I was going to get him a new one for Christmas. When I called the customer service department to find out which model it was, I discovered it might be covered under warranty. Today his NEW jacket arrived, and he loves this updated version of his all-time favorite 3 season jacket. Even better fabric and features, and true to their claim, it was replaced free of charge. In these days of ever-cheapening products, your jackets stand heads above the others. Marmot is THE BEST! Thank you!
on 2/2/11.
I am a skinny guy (6', 140 lbs), and the M jacket fits just the way I like it. It seems really waterproof, too. It's super light-weight, and the pockets, especially the internal water bottle pocket, distribute the weight of whatever they carry very well.
One BIG caveat, though, is what the velcro pocket flaps have done to the cuffs -- they've scraped the hell out of them. I've only worn the jacket for a total of 12-14 days, and already the cuffs are really frayed. It looks terrible, like fake Halloween spiderwebs are coming out of an area of several square inches. I don't know if it's a deal-breaker, so I haven't contacted the warranty department yet, but it's a serious drawback to an otherwise great jacket.
on 2/2/11.
Ian, thank you for contacting our warranty department. This is your best bet on getting the velcro issue resolved.

I'm 6' 265lbs. I weight train a fair bit, but have a belly. I usually wear a XL snug in sweatshirts. Would it be better to get a XXL?
on 4/2/11.
I'm a fisherman & I'm looking for a rain jacket & pants that can hold up to a all day downpour. I was in a tourament recently where it poured all day. How would the Oracle jacket compare to the 3 layer Gore Tex products I'm also looking at? I'm looking for tough but comfortable. Would this be your suggestion in the Marmot line?
on 7/5/11.
We got stranded in the pounding rain cuz the wind was so strong it would flip the umbrellas we had inside out...it was then that i decided to invest in THE BEST rain jacket that money could by. I'm in the Manila, Philppines and when it rainy season here were talking about 20 or so cyclone like storms to hit the city in a span of 2-3months.
Only TNF is available in stores here, so i did some research on it and i thought ok sounds good no choice really...and i was set to by it the next day.
I was already at the store my bro calls up from the US, i mentioned to him i was out to buy TNF, he was like "WHAT...hell no!! get a MARMOT!! i think my that just got back there has an extra one" so i googled it, watched the video AND BOOM!! i was sold!! My bro calls me back tells me that his friend has an extra one that he was going to give to his uncle but it didn't fit and was willing to sell it to me for just 4Gs($90.00), SOLD SOLD SOLD!! TNF sells their jackets here for 6.5Gs ($160.00) i rushed over to meet him.
I HIT THE JACKPOT!! i got it cheaper that TNF was selling it here and it is THE BEST of THE BEST! I SO LOVE THIS JACKET!!! the way it fits, the way it feels in the inside, and my girlfriend says i look really cute in it! its so comfy i can almost sleep in it!! i can't wait to test it against the ruthless phil storms here!! bring it on i gotta MARMOT!!
Sorry for the novel...but i just love my love story with my new MARMOT ORACLE JACKET!! :))
