GORE-TEX® Paclite®
The lightest, most packable outerwear available, GORE-TEX® PacLite® garments are durably waterproof, windproof and breathable and are built for activities when weight and space are critical, but protection is still important.
The face fabric is constructed of high-performance polyester or nylon and on the inside GORE-TEX® Paclite® Shells use a specific GORE-TEX® membrane with a protective layer made of an oil-hating substance and carbon. So no separate lining is required. This makes GORE-TEX® Paclite® shells lighter and smaller to pack away.
Special Gore-Seam® tape technology ensures all seams are 100% waterproof.
GORE-TEX® PacLite® Shells are great for trekking, hiking, backpacking, mountaineering, cycling, hunting, fishing, golfing and water sports.
The Seattle Times 10/29/09 Minimalist Jacket
The Marmot Minimalist does away with unnecessary frills and features.
Our female testers loved the Marmot Minimalist jacket. Cut for a trim, athletic fit, the Minimalist does away with unnecessary frills and features. The simple, clean design fits comfortably over a thin midlayer without binding or bunching, allowing freedom of movement while hiking, scrambling and climbing. One tester noted that the hem is just long enough to fit under a backpack belt to ensure it doesn’t ride up and deposit rainwater in your pants. Though Paclite breathes better than other Gore products, the Minimalist provides additional ventilation through armpit zippers that extend forward on the body of the jacket a bit to improve air flow. The jacket weighs less than a pound and sells for $200. - Dan A. Nelson

Maximum Breathability
It might be called Minimalist but this jacket’s breathability is maximal thanks to a Gore-Tex Paclite membrane that handles moisture well. Additionally, side zips allow air to circulate. The large hood, which protects reasonably well, is big enough to cover a helmet if you scramble or climb, but even with the volume-adjusting rear tab it can be overwhelming for walking. A curious hood drawcord arrangement allows single-handed adjustment only when the jacket’s front zip is part down; you’ll need both hands when it’s fully fastened.

Hey, I’m Fabrizio Zangrilli, Marmot Athlete Team Member, and I’m out in Colorado doing a bit of ice and mixed climbing today. It was pretty warm this morning, and sure enough it’s snowing a lot now. We’re supposed to get another huge dump of snow, which is great for building ice climbs for the spring.
So today I want to talk about the clothes that I’m wearing for mixed climbing. I chose the Minimalist Jacket, which is a Paclite® GORE-TEX® jacket. It’s great for deep ice and mixed climbing cause it’s very, very light. Has Angel-Wing movement so my hands are above my head when I’m swinging, the jacket doesn’t rise up on me. It’s fully taped; it’s got great pit zips – so on the approach here they were open and I didn’t overheat – and the jacket breathed well. It’s very, very lightweight as well, which I love. The hood – obviously it’s snowing a lot and I need my hood up; it accommodates a helmet really well. So, it fits perfect.
I’m also wearing the Alpinist glove today, with the GORE-TEX® Xtra-fit technology. These have become my workhorses and I love them.
The other product I want to talk about is my Scree Pant. It’s a soft shell pant and is very, very dynamic, which is awesome for the kind of mixed climbing that I’m doing today. There’s no constriction in my movement, and they are very breatheable. Underneath I’m wearing a lightweight long underwear and a power stretch long underwear as well. I’m perfectly warm, these are the ideal pants for today.
Well ... no time like the present. A little bit of a slog to the bottom of the climb, but … let’s get going.

I love this shell. It is durable, well ventilated, sheds water, and breathes very well. I had a three layer goretex MH before this and I must say - I am not at all disappointed in this shell with Paclite goretex. (I would have given it a 5, but the hood is a little big and since I do not use a helmet it is not as functional for me.) Otherwise I am pleased with the fit, zippers, design, and its ability to keep me dry from precipitation while not causing me to sweat. The fabric is such an improvement and although it has a stiff feel when packing, it compresses very well and the stuffness is not noticed when worn. The neck design is great in that it fully collars the neck when zipped all the way up - whether the hood is on or not - it keeps the wind out and seals in a little extra warmth when needed. I would recommend this to a friend.

This Jack is heaver and does not drape as the photos portray, I I have said before, it feels as though the minimalist jacket is "wearing me" as opposed the more desirable opposite conclusion.
