Still one of our favorite clothing and accessory manufacturers, they’ve been getting the quality and details down for quite some time now…since 1971. I am looking into the Cervino and Mainline as options for a new rain/ mountain hiking shell. Since i have only been able to try on the Cervino locally, I was wondering what the key differences were between these two jackets outside of the pocket configurations?

The Mainline does not have a two way main zipper. The Cervino has no sleeve pocket. That is about the only difference. The lower pockets on the Mainline are lined hand warmer pockets. The Cervino only has unlined pack pockets. They are both nice jackets. I would prefer the Mainline with a two way main zipper. I have the Mainline. My jacket when fully zipped up snags when trying to un zip it right at the neck. I have replaced it with the Cervino for the two way main zipper. I like the pockets better on the Mainline. Marmot should combine the two jackets instead with the upper pockets being angled lined hand warmer pockets with lower horizontal zip pockets at or below the pack belt line.

Fred, if you have owned both the Cervino and Mainline... can you inform me as to if they are cut and sized similarly?? Thanks a ton!

David the cut of the Cervino and Mainline are basically identical. There is also the Palisades jacket. It is similar to the Cervino and Mainline. The Palisades also has a two way zipper plus is zip in compatible that is there is a second zipper to zip in a fleece or down insulator layer. Of the three the Mainline has the best pockets. The Cervino the worst.

It the Mainline, Cervino or Palisades compatible with helmets?
