M2
Marmot M-series fabrics are designed for moving light and fast. They combine stretchable, water repellent, abrasion resistant and highly breathable shell materials with insulating buffer materials on the inside.
M2 shells are the ideal balance between weather resistance, breathability and thermal protection. They are appropriate for a wide range of aerobic use in moderate to cold conditions.

WINDSTOPPER®
WINDSTOPPER® Soft Shells offer total windproofness and maximum breathability, combining the comfort of a soft mid-layer and the water resistance of a shell in one garment. WINDSTOPPER® Soft Shells keep you comfortable and provide the freedom of movement you need for enhanced performance in a wide range of activities and weather conditions.
Constructed of soft, quiet, stretchy fabrics, WINDSTOPPER® protects your body’s warmth from the chilling effects of wind and weather and prevents overheating and perspiration build-up by allowing moisture vapor to easily escape. The unique WINDSTOPPER® membrane totally stops wind from penetrating the fabric while allowing moisture to escape unhindered for 2X more breathability than comparable windproof products.
With this 3-layer construction, the WINDSTOPPER® membrane is bonded between a high performance fabric such as robust, high-quality stretch polyester on one side, and a quick-drying polyester fleece on the other. The durable water repellent finish offers additional weather protection.
Designed for an active fit, WINDSTOPPER® performs well in outdoor activities, such as hiking, backpacking, cycling, hunting, mountain sports, skiing, snowboarding and trekking in weather conditions, including: strong winds, light snow and rain.
ActiveGearReview.com reviews the Leadville Jacket
Courtesy of ActiveGearReview.com:
The Marmot Leadville Jacket is a great lightweight softshell that can be used for a number of different activities. The jacket has Windstopper softshell fabric with side panels that stretch as you move. We tested out the Leadville Jacket on cold rainy and windy hikes. The softshell material is water resistant and while caught in the rain for 30 minutes, we kept dry. We caution you that this is not waterproof though, so it will soak through in long downpours. We found the jacket to be pretty lightweight while stuffing it in a pack when it was warm and it also can get pretty compact for saving room in your backpack. The Marmot Leadville jacket has a drawcord near the bottom and adjustable cuffs to lock in the warm and keep the cold weather and snow out. If you cannot live without your music, the jacket even has a hole in the pocket for your headphones. We found the jacket to run a little big as we tested out a large and found there to be plenty of extra room around the mid section. Our tester was 6′0 tall and 175lbs. Activities we think this jacket is ideal for include; cold weather hiking, spring skiing, snowshoeing, cold weather running, and looking sporty while grocery shopping. Hi. Just wanted to know how effective is the windstopper for this jacket when you have the venting side panels? Does the wind penetrate easily thru this panel? I am guessing that the panel has no windstopper material. I am interested in using this jacket for hiking and as part of my layering system.

Even though the M2 side panels are not wind resistant, I haven't felt a noticeable amount of wind penetrate the fabric. Since your arms are mostly at your sides while walking/hiking I'm assuming this is why I haven't felt the wind yet, but otherwise, the Windstopper fabric does a remarkable job deflecting the wind around your body anyway. I too, have and continue to plan to use the jacket for layering while hiking and backpacking.

I purchased the jacket and wore it right out of the store into a torrential downpour. The jacket kept me completely dry as water beaded right off of it. When I went inside I was surprised how warm it was. I quickly had to take it off b/c it was so warm. I have not worn it out in field conditions yet but look forward to testing its capabilities.

I bought this jacket the other day and have been wearing it since. So functional--really does stop the wind--and cool looking--have received compliments already. It has great pockets, internal waistline drawstings in pockets, it's lightweight but warm, velcro adjustable sleeve openings seal out wind, all around comfortabl--even at the neckline when fully zipped. Have used it in high wind and light rain already and it has performed excellently! This is my first Marmot piece and I'm sure it won't be the last.

I just bought this jacket today and couldn't be more pleased. It is the perfect jacket for San Francisco weather where it can be cold and drizzly when you leave in the morning and warm and breezy on your way home. This jacket is classy enough to wear to work and sporty enough to wear out on the weekends. I love it!
