Reviews and comments

i have this jacket and its awesome but it needs to lose the arm pocket. and needs to be a bit longer. it could then function as an urban leather jacket

In response to the last comment...If your looking for urban wear you can find great stuff at the GAP in your local mall. I'm not trying to sound condescending, but Marmot does an excellent job of finding the needs of outdoor professionals and tailoring their outerwear to mee their needs. This jacket rocks!

I agree, this jacket is awesome! In fact, it is so awesome my fiance has taken it over as her own and I am looking for an upgrade today.

Huh? If you want urbanware, buy urbanware. If you want urbanware with a faux technical look, there are a lot of appropriate options from North Face and Columbia. Not sure how this could function as a leather jacket, considering that it isn't made of leather...

I don't believe marmot caters to yuppies. Marmot makes outdoor gear for outdoorsmen/women.

Lightweight, comfortable, and stylish. I bought one for the wife and decided to get one for myself.

Great soft shell jacket for chilly days/nights. Perfect for city, hiking, camping, mountaineering, etc.

Perfect fit. Closes well around the waist and won't bother during mountain ascents.

An absolutely fantastic jacket for ice climbing!
Warm, breathable and the fit is right- on.
Keep up the great work Marmot!

Excellent jacket. I own several different Marmot shells and this one is by far the most versatile. Can be worn from early fall to late spring without any problems due to its breathe-ability. If you're looking for this jacket with a few extras (hood, powder skirt, pit-zips, etc.), check out the Marmot Vertical Jacket.

This was exactly what I was thinking also. Since picking up this jacket I have become a Marmot fan. I wore this in the Chicago blizzard of 2010 coupled with a under-armor hoodie and I had zero problems staying warm. Yes i was tromping around outside for giggles both night of and the next day. It wasnt even a contest as to which jacket i reached for.

Extremely versatile, and it can be worn from fall to spring.

Also if you want a removable hood with a couple of extras the Vertical model is the same.

I just bought this jacket yesterday and absolutely love it. It was 18 degrees this morning when I went to work and I was more than warm enough. I am now a hug Marmot fan and will continue to purchase their outerwear. Great jacket!

This jacket is awesome, in fact it is so awesome my fiance has made it her jacket. So I am in search of a replacement for it today. I use it for everyday use and snow shoeing and it rocks!!

this jacket is freakin amazing... first marmot bought. and will DEFINITELY not be my last one to by. great job marmot. 10x better than north face.

this jacket is one word.... FLAWLESS!

My girlfriend just bought this jacket for me as a Christmas present. I have done research on many other jackets from The North Face, Arcteryx, Mountain Hardwear, etc., and I kept coming back to the Gravity. This jacket is AWESOME!!! I'm 5'7 and the small fits me like a glove! It fits close around my waist, which I love. I stood out in the snow on Christmas day for about 45 minutes, with just a t-shirt on underneath, and I was warm. Water beads right off of this thing. The inside is soft and comfortable against bare skin. The outer shell is somewhat hard, yet stretchy. It's smooth and it doesn't collect dirt or any other debris like most fleece jackets do. I have an iPhone with an Otter Box case, and it fits perfectly inside the arm pocket. Neither wind nor water seem to be an issue with this jacket, and it really turns heads!!!

I just got this jacket 2 days a go and so far I like it. I have shoveled the drive way and walked downtown in roughly 25 degrees Fahrenheit. In both cases, I was comfortable and at a nice temperature.

As far as fitting goes, I am 6'3" and weight 165. I'd consider myself a skinny, athletic build. I went with the large even though (oddly) the sizing chart (the one with waist size, etc.) fitted me to a small. I think the large was the best choice although it is slightly (only slightly) too big with just a t-shirt underneath. However, i fear a medium would be too small. The bottom part of the coat was also to wide, but i pulled on the drawstrings in the pocket and it now fits well.

I would recommend this jacket.

I bought the XL and being a larger built guy at 6'2'' 235lbs with a long torso make it difficult for proper length jackets, but this is the best fit yet. Arms and contoured fit are awesome, this is a great jacket for everyday wear and tear, not to mention it has looks as well.

Glad I bought it!

I initially started out looking at "The Other Guys" softshell jacket but the Marmot caught my eye at the store. Personnaly I think "tog" have become way too trendy/popular and less functional. Don't get me wrong they make some nice gear. Tried them both on and the Marmot Gravity fit way better. I'm 6'3" 230 lbs and have trouble finding gear with long enough sleeves. Never heard of Marmot till that point. Needless to say I'm extremely happy with this jacket. It's now my everyday jacket for the fall/winter, warm, light weight and decent water resistance.
We have had quite a winter here in CT and this jacket kicks the weathers ass.
Thanks Marmot !!!

Is the Gravity jacket windproof, or is it wind resistant?

The Gravity Jacket is windproof.

I have bought a Gravity Jacket from an internet store. On the paper label it attached, I find that the softshell is both Gravity Jacket and Marmot M2 Softshell, which made me confused. According to the Web of Marmot, Gravity Jacket should be M1 softshell. Does someone know the reason for that?

Gravity Jackets produced before Fall 2010 were considered M2. The Gravity was updated for Fall 2010 with a laminate to increase windproofness, weather resistance, etc. This update pushed it into the M1 category.

This jacket is top notch all around. I would especially recommend for vertically challenged people like myself. I am 5'8" so normally too short for a L and my shoulder are too wide for a M...but this jacket fits perfectly.

TOP NOTCH!!

Love the coat. I live on lake Michigan and it stops the wind

It's really awesome Jacket; light, nice, comfortable, etc
Just Love it

Well, there I was. Wandered into the REI store in search of a "business prefessional" looking jacket for work ('cause I am getting too old to wear a hoody to work). In addition to my 'looks good' requirement, I wanted something warm, windproof, and preferrably water resistant due to my forcasted trip to Oregon in December. I stumbled upon the Arc'Teryx Crosswire jacket. I liked it, it was a snazzy looking jacket, that's for sure. I wore it for a couple of days and came to really like it's looks (even more so).
But here's the problem, it wasn't warm, windproof or even water resistant. I begrudgingly returned a few days after purchase and exchanged it (plus an extra eighteen bucks) for the Marmot Gravity and I couldn't be any happier with my decision.
The jacket is plenty warm in San Diego's 53 degree fall mornings and I was surprised by this considering the jackets relatively low weight, probably because I have never before owned a quality windproof jacket with a warm and fuzzy interior. The material on the outside I found to be a little noisy when I first put it on but it wasn't noticable at all through the course of the day as I was working (mechanic). Besides, one can't acquire a silent windproof and water resistant jacket in this price range anyway, at least not to my knowledge.
As far as looks go, It delivers. It has the "business professional" non-hoody look that I was going for. I found that the collar folds down a bit nicer that my previous choice (the Crosswire) and also better than the North Face equivilant of the Marmot Gravity that I tried on before going with the Marmot.
I am pleased with this jacket purchase and I am really looking forward to testing it out outside of the San Diego, CA temperate weather to see what this jacket can really do; although my suspicions are that it will impress. Perhaps I should go by the bay on a cold windy afternoon.

Simply brilliant.

I bought this Jacket (in black) December last year. All of it: The Production, the materials, the design and the "thinking" behind the functionality (!) are on a high level of quality.

For comparison only, I got stuff from Arc'teryx too ...but the gravity is my winter-favorite.

Very well done Marmot!

- The only thing I don't like is that the Adjustable Velcro Cuff "to make raw" the softshell under it. - But that's the only negative.

I LOVE THIS JACKET!!!! I bought t about 2 weeks ago and i wouldnt trade it for the world! i dont like The North Face because i think they are overpriced for what they sell so instead i got a Marmot and dont regret it one bit! thanks for all the great products Marmot!!!

This is the best softshell on the market. Very well built and designed. For tall guys like me 6'2. 76" reach. I weigh 185 lbs and this jacket fits perfectly. Sleeves are just right, they reach the very first knuckle on my thumb when my arms are straight and at my sides. With my arms bent the sleeves pull up to my wrists so they are out of the way when performing tasks. Overall body length is perfect, just long enough to cover the top of my pants waist. It is in my opinion the warmest softshell on the market. I can wear this in a t-shirt at thrty degrees and still be warm. A note on that, unless you are a "cold person" this jacket will have you sweating above 50 degrees.
