Mountain Pack Frames

A lightweight frame system with a compression molded back panel for comfort and an HDPE framesheet with aluminum stays to distribute the pack load.

Adventure Travel March/April 2008 Eiger 35

Biggest and Best

A generous 35 and we get the feeling this was actually designed by someone who has climbed the Eiger rather than just seen a picture of it. Every detail has been thought through, even down to stowaway pouches for gear loops (including two ice axe) and attachment points when not in use. Zipped pockets, a floating extendable lid, with single lid closure, zipped mesh hip belt pockets and an excellent back system that moulds to the shape of your back. In a line: Biggest and best 35 litre pack we’ve come across in the last few years.

Fresh Loot

Marmot’s Eiger 35 pack handles long days of alpine abuse. Credit 420-denier nylon reinforcements and a molded suspension that doesn’t wilt when overloaded.

It’s in the Bag

The well-designed Eiger 35 is an excellent all-around daypack with a large main compartment and a floating lid pocket. The large version (with a capacity of 2,300 cubic inches) fit me like a glove. The Eiger 35 has a number of innovations that make it notable. One is the single clamp holding the lid-pocket for one-handed opening and closing. Another is the way the ice-ax loops and ski holders hide away very unobtrusively. No fashion frou-frou and lower priced than the competition.

Gripped 12/06 Eiger 35 Pack

Straightforward Pack

This straightforward pack should appeal to many climbers. The single strap lid closure makes it simple to get into. A soft and flexible waist strap is easily stored away if you don’t want to wear it while also wearing a harness. The ski holders, designed by ski mountaineer Doug Coombs, are the easiest to use of any we’ve seen. The tool straps and daisy chains for gear or crampons are light and easy to use.

How and the heck does a CamelBak Omega 100 hydration bladder stay suspended in the Eiger 35?

Which pocket should it be inserted into --- the zippered one or the pouch in front of the zippered pocket?

Thanks!

Is Eiger 35 waterproof?

Thanx

About the hydration bladder location in the Eiger 35. Well, I was trying to figure out the same thing myself: which pocket? And also, where is the hose supposed to come out?

I'm having a hard time figuring out all the logic to strap placements, flaps, loops, attachment points. Some seem to be in illogical places, thought more than likely there is a a pice of equipment/method of strapping inserting... that I hven't figured out.

It would be nice if there was a description (pictures) of typical usages.

Nope, it is water resistant to some extent. Use some Campmor silicone based water repellent and give it a good coating to help increase water resistance!

I have to say that this is an excellent pack! Most of the features are very streamlined and simple, which makes it easy to use and the material seems durable and should be somewhat water repellant.

Now I have to agree with the comment above in regards to the bladder system, there seems to have been an oversight since there is no loop to fasten for example Camelbak bladder systems, but the exit for the hose is there. It is located through the internal hole at the top and coming out at the back of the pack right above the shoulder straps. Now another addition to the pack could be simple plastic loops on the shoulder straps for the hose to be kept steady on (can be seen on Camelbak packs).

Other than this "minor" issue the pack is great. Used it on a short overnight hike and it fits just the right amount of gear for 2-3 day hike and I could even see myself using it for an extended backpacking / travel trip.

To Marmot...
concerning the Aspen pack...2100, black.

I bought the Aspen in early 2010 at Dick's in SLC, Utah.
The black Aspen performed extremely well. I modified the shoulder straps with some extra support and replaced the factory waste belt with a nice thick Osprey belt and the pack ruled me.
Road like a porsche on my spine...A.
It packed out perfectly until the 100 mile Wilderness.
But I found a trick.
Those large plastic containers that sport pretzels and snack mix...those...they can be used as extra fuel cells for food for those longer excursions.
Simply duct tape it along the longitudal axis straps in the rear and it rides like a fuel cell on a space shuttle.
The black works in the east..dries fast on those wet days! But the West? Looking at the Eiger 35 grey for the West and the PCT. Hopefully kicking off ADZPCTKO in 2011.

Finished the AT August 18, 2010.

Send me an email and I'll email you a victory picture.
