Technology

UPF

What is it?

UPF stand for Ultraviolet Protection Factor. Clothing can protect you from the sun's ultraviolet rays. It all depends on the fiber content, weave, weight of fabric and color.

So what's the difference between UPF and SPF?

SPF stands for the Sun Protection Factor, most commonly associated with sunscreen. This measures the amount of time it takes for skin to burn. UPF on the other hand stands for Ultraviolet Protection Factor, which is a measure of the amount of UV radiation that penetrates a fabric and reaches your skin. For example, a fabric rated with a UPF of 20 will allow only 1/20th of the sun's UV rays to pass through.

Marmot UPF fabrics come in UPF 20, 25, 30, 35, 45 & 50.

What are the benefits of this technology?

Wearing a UPF fabric would greatly reduce your exposure to UV rays, (where it covers your body). Dark colors and tight weaves will have higher UPF ratings. As well, nylons and polyesters are better than plain cotton because they reflect radiation.

Nanowick

What is it?

Marmot's Nanowick technology is a group of proprietary fabrics that are engineered to provide advanced moisture management with accelerated wicking and evaporation. Nanowick's unique construction provides permanent performance that will not wash out or wear out over time.

  • The combination of high performance yarns and unique fabric constructions are engineered to enhance wicking and dry time which provide all day comfort when active
  • Wicks up to 40% faster than traditional synthetics
  • Dries up to 10x faster than 100% cotton
  • No topical treatments
  • Ultraviolet Protection Factor (UPF)

How does it work?

These fabrics spread the moisture across a wide surface area where it can evaporate quickly keeping you cool, dry and comfortable without the use of topical treatments.

What are the benefits of this technology?

Marmot's Nanowick technology provide advanced wicking and enhanced dry time to provide comfort for all your adventures on the trail, in the gym and on the rock.
