I would like to buy an Alpinist vest (size : M, colour : Cayenne) but it is not available in France (I've checked with your European headquarters in Germany).
As I will be in the U.S. next August for 3 weeks, could you give me an address of a shop where I could buy it ?
I will probably arrive in Salt Lake City (around the 5th) and leave from Portland or more probably from Seattle back to Europe (around the 26th).
I want to try it before to buy as the price is not so low...
Many thanks for your help,
François

Great jacket. It's my fall, winter, and spring coat for any outdoor activities.

I have an Alpinist from about 7 years ago, its the same blue as the current model. The jacket is ridiculous. Its ruggid. Water jsut beads off of it. You do have to layer since its only a shell but it keep you dry and completely protected from the wind because of the 3 layer tech and fully taped seams and zippers. I love it!

Will the cayenne in a Large ever be back in stock, or is it time to wait for next year...?

The Alpinist Jacket is part of our Fall 11 collection. Look for it to be available again late August. Thank you for visiting Marmot!

Hello Nice Marmot,
May I ask-
What are the significant differences between the alpinist and exum jackets (apart from the alpinist attaching to the alpinist pants)?
Many Thanks

Greg, thank you for your question. The Alpinist is a 70 denier stretch fabric jacket designed for all round Mountaineering use. The Exum is a lightweight shell designed for climbing where weight and compactness is a concern. The Alpinist is a more feature rich jacket with both pack pockets and chest pockets. It also features a removable powder skirt. The Exum is made out of lighter weight 20 denier fabric and has just pack pockets.

I'm replacing a phenomenal Liquid Steel ski jacket, circa 2002.
Is the Alpinist, Exum or Troll Wall closest to the Liq Steel?
Also, do you sell midlayer windstopper jackets with pitzips?
Thakks!

My girlfriend purchased this Jacket for me as a unexpected present. I told her that it was too expensive and to return it. She urged me to try it so i did. I absolutely love the Jacket i wear it camping, i run in the rain with it, Mountain bike with it. This jacket does it all so if you have the extra funds and want a jacket that does it all will last forever and still looks good then purchase the Marmot Alpinist Jacket just make sure you get Cayenne its the best color :)

Excellent jacket. Bomb proof.

I really recommend this jacket to all hiking enthusiasts. It's very comfortable to wear even in summer when one needs to walk in rain. It never failed me when it comes to waterproofness. I used it also in winter while skiing and also proved well.
Please advise me how to wash this jacket. Can I use washing machine and add gore tex impregnate?
Many thanks.

I have used the Alpinist in the Himalaya attempting an unclimbed peak, and found it to be bomber! The fit is excellent (quite a bit more 'athletic' than my Exums), and I even downsized one size to keep it snug and it still fit well (and I'm thick in the chest and arms). Size it well to find the right fit for you. The fabric and construction are super-tough. With the athletic fit, you can throw on a down belay jacket like the Ama Dablam or Trient right over it.
