Marmot MemBrain®
MemBrain® fabric balances the best performance in waterproof, breathable fabric with excellent durability.
MemBrain® reduces internal condensation while increasing comfort by reducing the chilling effect caused by condensation build-up.
When used with insulated garments or sleeping bags, MemBrain® protects the insulation from harsh weather conditions.

DAC
DAC tent poles are up to 15% lighter than aluminum, yet comparable in strength. Through innovative design, DAC created a light weight and compact folding tent pole.
Backpacker 3/06 Alpinist 2P Tent
Best Buy
When you want a shelter that can stand up to mountain weather yet won’t weigh you down, pack this sub-5-pound single-wall. After a winter traverse of New Hampshire’s Presidential Range and a spring climb of California’s Mt. Shasta (see the full review, 2/05), our testers reported that the tent withstood strong winds and drifting snow, thanks to two crossed poles that thread through sleeves, a short bridge pole over the door, well-placed guyouts, and reinforcing straps connecting pole ends to stake loops. It collected no condensation on a calm, 20 degree F night with the door closed, thanks to three vents and Marmot’s waterproof/breathable MemBrain fabric. Good headroom and 88 inches of length made the Alpinist livable through a 15-hour storm. And the price is low for the category.
Backcountry 3/09 Alpinist 2P Tent
Alpine Accoutrements
Elegant and orange, Marmot’s Alpinist is a great choice for burgeoning alpine climbers or swarthy mountaineers. Single-walled, seam-sealed, and weatherproof, the Alpinist is light (under five pounds), durable, and – with three Dac poles – easily set up in just a couple minutes, even in nasty weather. An attached vestibule is spacious, and a teardrop window lets you check conditions from your sleeping bag. The Alpinist also has two vents below the ceiling that offer adequate cross ventilation, and two baffled pouches hang from high for storing personal affects. Best of all, the 30 sq. foot floor is big enough that you and your partner aren’t living all over each other. – Jeff Burke

Could you please tell me which diameter DAC NSL poles are in this tent? Thanks
on 5/2/10.
The DAC poles are 9mm (measure with a straight ruler, so I might be off by +/- 0.5mm).
on 3/12/11.
Measured with a dial caliper, the orange sections of the poles are .355" or 9mm the red sections are .380" or 9.6mm. Good work with the the straight edge.

I love this tent! I have had this tent for two years and do not have one negative comment. Ultra light and bomb proof. This tent holds up to high winds of 50-60mph and sets up easy. Vents great, minimal condensation.

Is this 4 season tent too much (heavy, warm ect) if one wanted to also summer camp? My plan is the occasional winter weekend but also some summer camping.
Tks!

Marmot offers some perfect lightweights for a reasonable price.
Construction is very robust regarding structure, poles and textile material.
A single wall isn't a clever idea for the summer. The membrain won't work without a considerable temperature difference so the tent will get hot from people inside sweating. For summer, the Limelight 2P is a perfect choice unless you go for bivy straight away.
The Limelight will also work in Winter and shed considerable snow load. This one is better suited for stormy glaciers in a winter gale unless you're using the high Alaskas terminology regarding your idea of summer and winter camping ;)

2P or not 2P...
That is the question...
I say go ahead, get this tent. 1.2 min. up time.
Technically it is right up there design and function with the top single wall, ascent 2p/4 season tents from MH and Bib. I prefer it due to the fact it has somewhat of a vestibule though no cooking area. (heck most of the time the winds blowing too hard to dare cook under a the tent anyway.) You will find it easy to put up solo in the wind. an ultralight watertight bag and separating the poles (with velcro straps) makes this highly packable for sub 65l packs and solo ascents its great (I even take it cycling and winter kayaking overnights). The single wall material is top notch (MemBrain®), stays dry and the hangers look a bit custom compared to biner style clips but appear to take a load... have not broken any yet, though I carry a biner with matched dia. just in case.
Snow sheds well, and due to ventilation config. is not affected in light to moderate snowfall even when dug in to slope (stays dry on mt. side). Cut-Stake-Clip is easy, packs in the tent before raisin it.
Also, my kids and I took it up their first subalpine adventure (theyre 7 & 11) and we all slept in this tent with 3 packs. Rain apart the condensation was minimal, and it is well guided by the contour. (*ie for accumulation if you lay it out ahead of time your bag stays dry. The kids like the viewing window and the semi mesh door allows for greater breathability and more open feel.

i have this tend sice 2 years and i used mostly for motorbike tur
this sommer i had the opportunity to have a trip in USA i did the most beutiful national parks ( monument, gran canion,bryce....) and we always slept in the Alpinist 2P tend, later we had also a week in Sardinia always with our alpinist 2P tend
i can really say that this tend fullfill all our needs :
isolation , no umidity, ventilation, easy to set up ( we were always the first in the group ready) , warm (gran canyn was raining and cold)
please marmot make also a 3P tend in the same construction !!!!! my dog is tired to slep outside!!

After careful review of 2 person 4 season tents on the market, I purchased this tent and love it so far!
The design is well thought out and there is definite attention to details. Similar tents from competitors use internal poles whose installation exposes the inside of the tent during heavy rain. This tent can be easily be pitched in any weather. Plus: the seams are pre-sealed and the two vents below the tent apex are well protected by a small "roof".
Integrated vestibule reduces exposure to elements. Competitors offer optional vestibules, therefore underestimate both the real price and weight of their tents. At 5 lbs 8 oz, this tent is very light. Not in the "ultralight" range, but stability in high winds requires more material and less mesh. Carbon poles have not yet been proven to be good 4 season candidates.
PS: Little suggestion, Marmot may pre-cut the guy lines rather than provide 25 feet of 5 mm rope.

would I roast if i used this tent on 70 degree F nights and below?
on 2/5/11.
Bomber tent. Anyone looking for a single wall four season tent, look no further, this is your tent. Wonderfully apointed with easy to reach storage for your head lamp, tooth brush or kleenex. The vents are easy to get to even during the night and easy to open while wearing a light glove. We are both five foot ten and about one hundred and eighty pounds and had plenty of interior space to play chess or cards. The vestibule is a little bit small for me and my climbing partner's winter packs, but proved ample when we manuvered our stuff around. The breathability of the Assault MemBrain fabric is second to none; its as if the fabric has a "brain" of it's own knowing when and how to "breathe"...no condinsation while used this past week in back to back New York snowstorms, fourthy plus mile per hour winds and temps in the low teens during the day and zero to five below at night. Over three feet of the white stuff fell on our campsite and the Alpinst P2 handled it fantastically. The tent fabric, DAC Feartherlite poles and craftsmanship is straight up Marmot.....first class! The kneewall design is a great idea, helps add elbow room. The external clip system makes for a two minute set up time even in a New York snow storm.
