Fitting
There are several simple steps in determining your size of pack. Your local specialty retailer will go through each of these in helping you determine which pack and related componentry is correct for you.
Torso Length
To determine the correct size of your pack, you must first measure your torso length. Ask a friend to use a flexible tape measure (a tailor’s tape works best) to measure along the surface of your back from your seventh cervical vertebra (the most prominent bump on the back of your neck) to a horizontal line across your back connecting the outward protrusion of your hip crests (the iliac crest). Once you know your torso length use the chart above to determine your proper frame size. Please don’t try to determine your torso length from your height; torso length is not always related. If you have any questions, or feel your’re between sizes, please contact your nearest dealer.
Shoulder Harnessing
Our Shoulder Pads are designed to work with your body’s shape. They come on all models of our backpacks, and are available in up to four sizes: small, medium, large, and x-large. In general, many women and small men will use size small. We offer two shapes of the small and medium shoulder pads, one being women specific. These take into account anatomical nuances in and around the neck and upper chest of women. Taller women (5’8” and up) typically use medium pads. Most men use medium pads, while tall (6’3” +) or thick chested (46”+) fellas use large pads. Exceptionally tall or thick chested guys use extra large pads. Ask your retailer to help determine which size is appropriate for you.
Pack Fitting
In determining which size of pack and componentry is correct for you there is no substitute for actually trying a loaded pack on. Pay a visit to a Marmot dealer as they have been trained in fitting our packs. Currently each of our packs comes with a comprehensive Owners Manual. In these manuals you will find valuable information on dialing in the uses as well as the care and feeding of your Marmot pack.
Hip Circumference
For select packs we offer sized belts to ensure a comfortable carry. To determine the right size you must measure your hip circumference. Again a tailor’s tape works best. Remember that the hipbelt is wrapping around and cupping over your hipbones, so be sure to measure the circumference of your hip crest (see diagram), not your stomach. Once you’ve determined your hip circumference, use the chart below to determine the right size belt.
