Three years ago, Estes Park Climber Michelle Hurni lost her first Bernese Mountain Dog to cancer. That loss spurred her to create an event called “Going to the Dogs”.
The Going to the Dogs event is a five hour Spin-A-Thon where everyone solicits donations to raise money for the dogs. The recipients of the grass roots fundraiser are local to the Estes Park area – the Pet Association of Estes and The Larimer County Humane Society. Both organizations have a no-kill policy which appeals to the Going to the Dogs participants.
To encourage everyone to stay on their bike for the entire five hours, local and national businesses donate products which are raffled off each hour. Marmot is one of the national sponsors of this year’s event, which will take place at the Rocky Mountain Health Club on May 12th.
