In a new era of global awareness and great change, Marmot is decidedly breaking new ground as a company, taking more than three decades of outdoor life and business experience and plotting a new course for the future centered around three elevated brand ideals: People, Product, Planet – a triumvirate forged by fate and self awareness, but intimately tied to the celebration of the human experience.
Sarah and Charlie blog about their pain as they prepare to climb the Grand Teton while training under Mountain Athlete's rigorous program.
DISCLAIMER: You don't actually have to train like this to climb the Grand. This is just what some hardcore athletes do to stay in shape.
Plus, some people just like to suffer.

Santa Rosa, (CA): Marmot Mountain, LLC has just won Outside magazine’s 2011 “Gear of the Year” award for the Plasma 15 goose down sleeping bag ($469). Marmot’s new 900-fill ultra light bag, which was “torture tested” by Outside editors over several months, received a ‘best in class’ review from gear tester,...

Bumps in the road.
I hate it when I can’t plan. I love planning, planning out the day, planning out my month, year, trips, and so on. It makes things seem tangible to me. Unfortunately, I’ve been slowly learning the lesson that I can’t actually plan and predict everything. This has been especially hard in my recovery. I remember meeting with my doctor and trying to get the schedule of how my recovery was supposed to unfold; 3 months for this, 6 months for that, a year for another milestone....
Travel....
I'm a natural nester and homebody. I know, it's odd for someone who only sleeps in her own bed about 6 months per year. But to be completely honest, if left to my own accord, I would get in a daily routine, stick to it and be as happy as a clam. However, being a professional climber takes me all over the country and all over the world. I've found that if I can have a few of the creature comforts of my 'homebody routine' that my travel is a lot easier. For me, two things always take...
Who hates doing abs? If this were an interactive webinar, you would see me bouncing up and down in my seat, holding my hand up, shaking it and saying 'oooooh, oooooh, me, me, I do I do.'
Yes, I know that abs are important, but in my opinion, they are a pain in the butt. I mean, we all like to see gains, right? I mean, visually, see gains. And unless you are an uber fit guy, or an anomaly of a woman, a six pack is hard to come by. So for me, abs inevitably get pushed to the bottom of my workout...
Hello everyone and happy spring! This is the first in an ongoing series of updates, tips, muses, thoughts, and anything else that you might possibly find swirling around in my head. I’m a climber by passion and profession, but surprisingly I like to talk more about cooking, hiking, running, dogs, and the mountains. So, I’ll probably mix in my favorite cookie recipe with some useful climbing tips.
I’d also love to hear what you would like to hear about. It helps me keep a backlog of ideas and...

It’s mid-April and I’m in Alaska. I’ve left home with mountains of ski gear crammed into my Endless Road Luggage for what has seemed until now, an endless journey. Months and years of preparation, of training, and anticipating this: my last of three full exams, the AMGA Ski Mountaineering Guide Exam, to achieve IFMGA/UIAGM Mountain Guide Certification.
As an Athlete and Guide, Marmot has supported me with the best product on the market since the...

This winter I had shoulder surgery, my first surgery ever. It slowed me down from my physical activities in the mountains for several painful months. Instead my time was spent traveling to do slideshows, clinics, and presentations. But come spring, I knew that I would be itching to start to exercise as much as possible, within the parameters of the doctor’s orders of course. And, who better to do that with than man’s best friend? I ended up adopting a dog and soon he became my...
