7. My gear has lost some of its water repellency – What can I do?

Clean the garment. We suggest using Granger's G-Wash Cleaner Plus.

To restore the water repellency in your gear we recommend using Granger's Waterproofing for Synthetic Fabrics – either wash-in or spray-on versions. (You can find it in most sports specialty stores) Use the wash-in method for shell garments and follow the label directions. Be sure to use luke warm water to wash and rinse, place the garment in a drier for 45 minutes at medium heat to heat-set the finish and remove it promptly. For soft-shell garments, Granger’s offers Soft Shell Proof to restore water-repellency.

8. How do I know what size I need?

Every clothing product page has a link to our size chart. Click here to check it out.

9. Why won’t my Zippin work?

A few times now our zipper manufacturer has redesigned their process and the old season zippers don't fit the newer seasons – Ouch, we had no control! So... if you are buying a liner at your local dealer be sure to take your jacket along to check that the zipper sliders work together.

More information…

We identify our seasons (two Marmot seasons a year - Spring & Fall) with an Alpha system so a letter prefixes garment style numbers (i.e. Cervino style number R4904 would be from our Fall 99 Season - more confusion they skipped O season because it looks like a zero). With that all said the Actual Zipper Changes occurred for all seasons M through R, then again for seasons T and forward.

We are happy to change zippers through our warranty services.

10. How do I roll my hood into a collar?

To roll your hood into a collar take the visor portion of the hood and fold it under and under itself forming a collar (this takes a little patience to get a flat even roll). Then take the tab at the outside back of the neck and fold it over the newly formed collar. Put the tab through the loop on the inside back of the neck and attach it to itself. Viola!

PLEASE NOTE: The PreCip jacket does not have a tab in the neck. The tab is under the visor. All you do is take the tab from the back of the hood, fold the visor back, insert tab and pull back on itself to Velcro close - the hood volume can be reduced, but not rolled up like our other jackets.

11. How do I store my down bag?

The Down Doctor sez, “DO NOT store your down sleeping bag in a stuff sack. If it has been stored in a stuff sack, take it out, stretch it out, and let it rest for a few days. Then wash the bag, and dry it thoroughly on low to medium heat. To tell if the bag is completely dry, put one hand inside the bag, and the other hand outside, then feel between your two hands for any lumps. If the down feels clumped put it back in the dryer until you don’t feel any little lumps or balls. Then, either hang the bag to store it or keep it in a Storage Sack (as opposed to a Stuff Sack). Marmot Storage Sacks sell for about $14, and you can order them direct from us, if you can not find one locally - call 707-544-4590 and ask for customer service.”

12. How do I clean my down jacket or sleeping bag?

PROPER CLEANING INSTRUCTIONS FOR DOWN GARMENTS

Wash in Granger’s Down Wash Plus.. Do not use typical liquid laundry detergent on Gore-Tex fabric. It may leave a residue ( such as fabric softeners, fragrance, color brighteners) which could clog the pores of the Gore-Tex. We recommend using warm water for wash and rinse. Do not use all hot or all cold water. It is extremely important to rinse the down very well. We recommend two rinse cycles. For spot cleaning, Granger’s offers G-Wash Spray Cleaner Plus. Both Granger’s cleaners include an odor elimination component that will help keep your bag ‘fresh.’

Dry in dryer on low heat (temperature not to exceed 140 degrees F). Put two clean tennis balls (or similar objects such as “sock balls”) in with the garment. It is extremely important to make sure that your down product is dry to the fullest in order for it to regain its loft. Remove at once; do not allow the garment to remain in the dryer. (A down jacket may take 2-3 hours and a down sleeping bag may take 4-6 hours to dry.)

For removing heavily soiled spots, it is recommended by W.L. Gore to use “Spray & Wash” or “Shout”  We have found Grangers G-Wash Cleaner Plus spray very effective on all types of fabric including Gore-tex..

Do not dry-clean your down and/or Gore-Tex products.

SPECIAL SLEEPING BAG NOTICE:

DO NOT WASH OR DRY sleeping bags in home laundry equipment. Use a front-loading machine at a Laundromat and low temperature dryer. Home laundry equipment is too small and may damage sleeping bags.

13. How do I clean my Gore-Tex shell?

PROPER CLEANING INSTRUCTIONS FOR GORE-TEX SHELLS

Wash in Granger’s G-Wash Cleaner Plus—an effective, residue-free cleaner. Typical laundry detergents contain fabric softeners, fragrance and color brighteners which are water-attractive residues—not something you want on the surface of your Gore-Tex fabric. A mild powered detergent, such as  “Dreft”  is acceptable if thoroughly rinsed.  (Absolutely NO “Ivory Snow”  or Woolite—they are loaded with wate-attractive residues).

Do NOT use a liquid detergent on Gore-Tex fabric. It leaves a residue, which clogs the pores of the Gore-Tex and causes leakage. If the garment is non-Gore-Tex it is okay.

Never use all hot water or all cold water on Gore-Tex. Always use a warm wash and a warm rinse. It is extremely important to rinse the garment well. We recommend two rinse cycles or wash it once with detergent and again without.

Dry in dryer on LOW heat, at the end of the drying cycle, you may increase the heat to WARM and dry for an additional 15 minutes. This will remove some of the wrinkles from the fabric. Remove at once; do not allow the garment to remain in the dryer (it may cause burns on the fabric if it sits on the hot metal).

You may use a spot cleaner to remove stubborn spots before washing. Granger’s G_Wash Spray Cleaner Plus works well.  W.L. Gore is also comfortable recommending “Spray & Wash” or “Shout”.

If necessary, grease can be spot cleaned at the dry cleaners and then sprayed with any non-silicone spray (z-pel) - but do NOT dry clean the whole garment.

14. How do I restore the water repellency in my Gore-Tex gear?

RESTORE WATER REPELLENCY IN GORE-TEX

Clean the garment. We suggest using Granger’s G-Wash Cleaner Plus.

To restore the water repellency to Gore-Tex we recommend using Granger’s Waterproofing for Synthetic Fabrics—either wash-in or spray-on versions. (You can find it in most sports specialty stores.) Use the wash-in method for most shell garments and follow the label directions. Be sure to use warm water to wash and rinse. Use the spray-on version for garmens with DriClime® linings. Place the treated garment in a drier for 45 minutes at medium heat to heat-set the fininsh and remove it promptly. For soft-shell garments, Granger’s offers Soft Shell Proof to restore water-repellency.

15. Why does Marmot encourage proper care and feeding of their garments and gear?

It is really quite simple. We feel we make the best in the business and want you to be satisfied with the Marmot garments and equipment you purchase. Proper care assures you will optimize the performance of Marmot products and maximize their service-life. We have tested and believe that Granger’s cleaners and restorative DWR treatments are the easiest and most effective way to maintain you Marmot gear. Visit www.grangers.co.uk for more information about Granger’s products and tips on caring for your gear.

16. How can I find out about employment opportunities with Marmot?

Thank you for your interest in Marmot. We have job opportunities posted online for your convenience. Check out our Customer Service section and click on Careers or click here.

17. What is Marmot's policy on live plucking of geese?

Marmot’s Animal Rights Policy:
We believe in the humane treatment of animals. We do not use down provided by “live pluck” operations. We only use down provided after geese have been harvested for food. Our vendors are required to certify that they are complying with our animal rights policy.

Live Pluck Issue:

  1. There are three methods for collecting down and feathers from geese:
    • Machine pluck of dead animal: After harvesting the goose for food, the down and feathers are removed by a machine and processed. This is the method chosen by Marmot.
    • Hand pluck of dead animal: After harvesting the goose for food, the down and feathers are removed by hand and processed. This method is primarily used on small farms.
    • Hand pluck of live animal (Live Pluck): Down and feathers are removed by hand from a live goose. This method is still sometimes used on small family farms.
  2. Marmot DOES NOT use down from live pluck. We have strict requirements in place with our vendors to ensure that our animal rights policy is adhered to. Humane treatment of animals is an integral part of our company philosophy and we will continue to enforce our requirements throughout our supply chain.
  3. Additionally, we DO NOT use down from geese that have been raised for Foie Gras.

18. Why does my product weight different from what’s posted on the website?

When we determine weights for our products, we weigh several size medium products and generate an average weight which is what we list for each product. Any variations from there are based on statistical anomoly, environmental factors, and acceptable variation given the number of components in any one product.

I have a 1997 Marmot Alpinist Trango Sweater where both pit-zips need to be replaced. Additionally, although not as big of a concern, the bottom elastic cinch no longer works. Is there a list of companies who will do these types of repairs on technical garments? I am in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, if that matters or helps. I love this jacket and would love to have it reparied instead of replacing it.

Thanks,

Brian Fahl

For running in cold rainy conditions, it's best to layer an ultralight waterproof jacket (http://marmot.com/catalog/mens/jackets--vests/waterproof/ultralight/216-...) such as the Super Mica Jacket (http://marmot.com/products/super_mica_jacket) over breathable, fast-drying insulation that you can layer to match the temperature, such as the Variant Jacket (http://marmot.com/products/variant_jacket) and DriClime Windshirt (http://marmot.com/products/driclime_windshirt_spring_2011).

What Marmot shells should I be looking at for outdoor running in cold/rain conditions.

Thanks

We will replace the zipper for you. Please contact our warranty department right away at https://warranty.marmot.com/. We guarantee our products. Thanks for contacting us about this!

I am in Canada, do I get any service? I bought a black marmot men's winter jacket 2 years ago for $300. This is the third winter with the jacket. Product numbers appear to be RN 79448 and/or CA# 32277. The main zipper has small teeth, is flimsy, and no longer works, it just splits open. I would expect better of Marmot for $300. The lining, which I never unzip, has a much more robust zipper holding it in place.

It's a good thing I don't use this jacket for actual back country trekking, or I would be dead.

I thought Marmot stood for rugged clothes you could actually use in the back country.

"However, the company has not changed that much in thirty six years. It is still all about the highest quality performance product."

How does Marmot handle product in Canada?

The "contact us" section of the website gives no instructions, and no way to email except using this comment site

Not very impressive so far

Thank you

The DriClime blocks wind and keeps you dry, but does not provide much insulation. To stay warm in a Chicago Winter, try one of our Coats (http://marmot.com/catalog/womens/coats--parkas) or insulated jackets (http://marmot.com/catalog/womens/jackets--vests/insulated/217-303-310--4...)

Hi I was windering if the soft shell DriClime women's jackets will suit me. I live in Chicago and need a winter coat, but i dont like big puffy winter jackets. Is this the right coat for me and what is the lowest temperature this jacket can handle? Thank you.

Here is a side-by-side comparison of the two parkas: http://marmot.com/compare/216-302/1742/1752

Hi. Help me choose between Yukon Parka - Men's - Marmot and Whitehorse Parka - Men's - Marmot. What is the difference and benefits. Thank you, Dmitry. /Sorry for the translation Coogle/

Here is a list of online retailers who carry the Palisades Jacket: http://marmot.com/products/palisades_jacket_fall_2011#buy and here is our Retailer Locator to find a store near you: http://marmot.com/find_a_retailer

Is possible somewhere buy the mens palisades jacket - M, granite gargoyle? thanks for answer.

I'm glad you like the helmets. Those are custom, hand-painted helmets that we make for our Marmot Athletes. They are too expensive to produce for sale.

Hi - I've been seeing some nice Marmot helmets for climbing and skiing but you don't seem to have it in the website. How can I get them? Thanks, Gus

Has Marmot considered carrying a camo line of rain gear? There is very limited quality camo rain gear, in say Gortex. I love the quality that Marmot brings to the table.

Hello!

I would like to buy new Knees Pole for my Thor 2p. How and where can I get it?

Thank you!

It was made in S to XXL. These online retailers have it in stock:
http://marmot.com/products/driclime_windshirt_spring_2011#buy

Folks,
Try as I might , I could not find the DriClimb windshirt in size large... Dark Yellow and grey... ANYWHERE. No online retailers had it... none of the brick and mortar stores had it...

Was that color Driclimb even made in size large?

Hi Marmot gang, I've been wearing and using Marmot products for over 15 yrs. and one of my favorites was the 200 wt Tech Sweater. Any plans to bring it back? Thanks for the great products..wouldn't use anything else!

All Marmot gear is under lifetime warranty. Please send your jacket into our warranty department for evaluation. Thanks!

Hi,
I have a Marmot jacket for 5 years plus and the zipper is broken recently, I would like to know if it is under the warranty for repairs? and what should i do to have it fixed? Thanks!!!

Thank you for your comment. All of Marmot's products are under a lifetime warranty. Please go to https://warranty.marmot.com/ and follow the online instructions to have your tent evaluated.

I have owned and used an Equniox tent for a long time. Great piece of gear. However, on a recent trip the "v" section of the pole cracked and then broke. It's old enought that the local rep told me he couldn't help with getting it replaced. I know it's out of warranty but would love some help on how (or who) could fix it so I can use it again.

Thanks

Josh, thank you for your question. The total weight of the Zeus Jacket is 15oz/ 425g.

What is the fill weight of the Zeus down jacket?

The bungees are to fix broken corner grommets. If the grommet at the corner of the tent used to secure the tent poles breaks you can thread the bungee cord through the loop at the corner of the tent. The grommet is then used to
Secure the tent pole.

Hope that helps!

I just used this tent last week at 11,600 feet and got caught in intense weather - hail, rain, lightning. I must say, it kept me quite dry!!! The ends and the fly did flap a little in the wind, but the fly does go down far enough to still keep the rain out. Still don't know what the bungee cord grommet things are. Would sure be nice if a Marmot representative would read this list once and a while and respond to customer questions - especially since there is no email contact to the company.

I have the same issue with my Eos 1p Tent. The setup instructions were NOT for the Eos 1p and there was no information or instructions concerning the other stuff that came with the tent. Can you imagine the frustration of a first-time tent buyer/user dealing with this?!

I've been a loyal Marmot customer since their days in Grand Junction but thoughtful instructions with supporting information on the features and their use has ALWAYS been lacking with their products.

An easy fix would be to put the CORRECT and detailed instructions up on the website in PDF format AND include a few paragraphs about the proper use of the pole "splint", adhesive repair fabric and an explanation of what the bungee with grommets things are and how to use them - 'cause I have no idea what they are!

Easy, no?

I just bought the Marmot Eos 1p tent. The instructions with it are for another tent, not the Eos. It was easy to setup, but just one question there are these extra bungee circular cords with eyelets on them in the stake bag. What are these for? Where do they go? Hopefully they are for pulling the fly out more as I'm a bit concerned as it is not taught and will flap like crazy in a storm.

Thank you.

Could you tell me an economical way to stuff my Marmot Pinnacle sleeping bag into the stuff sack? I've tried rolling it but the roll is too long and too wide. I've tried stuffing it from one end to the other and that is time consuming, plus a lot of energy. I wonder if with use the stuffing gets easier.

The four tall tie outs are for very windy conditions.
The two lower ones are for pulling the rain-fly edge away and improve coverage over the tent bottom for when it rains. Old model tents actually didn't have this, and any rain always hit the bottom of the tent, where the seam is.
You can cut a couple little loops off the long rope for the 2 obviously low pullouts. Doesn't take much, and not meant for tent stabilization anyway.

Oh, best pullout method for the upper tie down points. Gotta picture this really. May be another manual still online.

4 sides of tent, put 1 stake on each side - not corner. Obviously 1 on the door sides has to be farther out.
Now on each stake, put a line from each corner for that side.
What you end up with is a 4 point star effect. This allows the wind to cause a little movement and not as much stress on the stake.
The traditional corner method can make things so tight, if it really blows - something is going to tear.

I have this same question, I bought this tent and it looks like it will be a great tent but I am not sure of which loops to attach the tie outs to. You are only given four tie outs, but I can see six places obvioiusly meant to tie out .Four about halfway up the poles on rainfly, two midway through the bottom on the short sides which are too tall to stake out. Also, what is the rod that came with the stakes?

The weight of the Titan 2 is 5lbs 5oz / 2.4 kg

I purchased the Titan 2 tent. It said I could go on the website for instructions. I dont find that on the website. Also what is the weight of this tent? thanks

Thanks!

If the down is washed properly (front load washer, down soap like Nikwax, etc…) and not too often, down retains most of its natural water repellency for a long time. Down is never really “waterproof” and will always absorb water. It’s not harmful to also treat your sleeping bag with Nikwax Down Proof which will add to the repellency, but it’s important to follow the instructions carefully. Plus, it's not necessary to use Nikwax Down Proof every time you wash.

Hi,

I have a Marmot helium sleeping bag that needs washing. I have a front-load washing machine and nikwax down wash. Do I need to add in nikwax down proof wash-in as well in order to maintain the water repellency?

Thanks!

hi,
i own a Marmot Couloir sleeping bag, with zipper on the RIGHT side.
i would like to buy the ALPINIST BIVY, but looks like it only comes with zipper on the LEFT side.
are these going to work properly together ? is the bivy built symmetrically (top / bottom) so i can rotate it and have the zipper on the RIGHT side ?
how would the membrain fabric compare to gore-tex ?
please advise asap.
thanks

sorry to see you have discontinued the swallow tent (s) .

can you tell me what would be the closest current tent?

thank you

just bought a womens montreux 650 fill. love the coat - 1 question, how water proof is it?

Long ago, Marmot acquired the Dana Design line of packs. They were around for a while, and then disappeared. Do you have any plans to resurrect any of that line? It would be sweet to have a new version of the Direct, with lightweight fabrics and fittings using the tried and true suspension system. Something around 75 liters that would carry a bear canister inside and weigh around 5 pounds.

I love Marmot products. I miss when marmot use to have "fingerprint" buttons on the parkas.

Is the hood bigger in the destination jacket than it is in the highland jacket, or are they the same size?

Hi Anna, Marmot does not sell direct from our website. Each retailer linked to our website has their own return policy. Once you find the bag you are looking for in stock, you can e-mail that retailer directly.
Thanks!

I'm worried about buying a sleeping bag without trying it. What is your return policy?

Would you post the time-frame for the Summer and Fall product lines.
Much appreciated.

I bought my son an ecopro 15 sleeping bag, which he loves and has used quite a bit. He is off to Peru trekking in July, but before he goes it really could do with a clean... or all his trekking mates will desert him. Please advise how to clean it - would NIKWAX Tech Wash be okay to use in the machine with it? Our home laundry a machine is for 7kg loads.
Thank you

great tent i have the Aeolos 2P, had some tent pole misshaps and just want to know how do i order more. i need two of the cross sections and one main. The tent still holds up great but i have to jimmy them together. backed over the poles in a car and somewhat still functional. great product but need new poles. thanks.

I need help finding a description and the specifications for an older marmot tent. It's a Marmot AT tent. I have googled the life out of it and can't even find a picture of it. If you have any of this info on file or know where I can find it the help would be greatly appreciated. Thanx. Nick

I have just purchased the Marmot Helium. I like that the down is able to be shifted anywhere I need it in the bag, however this raises a question for me. When the bags are rated (EN) are they rated with equal amounts of down in the top and bottom section of the bag? Of course, the down in the bottom does nothing for insulation purposes when compressed, so the thermal efficiencies are a result of the corresponding pad in which is being used, and not the down that is under you.
The reason I ask, is because if this is the case, (of the EN rating being produced with the down equally shifted on top and bottom), then when I shift more of the down to the top of the bag, will it not increase the rating?
This also leads me to another question. Once all of the down is shifted to the top, it obviously maxes out the allowed room in the baffles, however is it actually compressing some of the down on top because of the limited room. And if this is the case, would it not affect the rating?
With the down equally shifted, there seems to be some room left in the baffles on top. So if this is true, more down should be able to safely fill this space without compressing in on itself, resulting in a higher rating. So, how is the down distributed when the ratings are assigned using the EN rating system?

Oh yeah, and how about some stickers? Even though I didn't buy the bag direct from Marmot, a few stickers would be nice with a $370 bag.

Thanks,
Chad

Nice Marmot.
