Marmot was one of the first companies in the US to incorporate GORE-TEX® technology into its garments. For 37 years we’ve partnered with W.L. Gore & Associates, designing and engineering apparel and equipment to meet the demanding needs of today’s outdoor enthusiasts.
At the heart of GORE-TEX® fabric is an extremely thin membrane that’s durably waterproof, windproof, and breathable. It has over 9 billion pores per square inch. To construct a GORE-TEX® laminate (fabric), they bond the GORE-TEX® membrane between high-performance lining and shell textiles.
Every stitch in a seam is a potential leak. That’s why for durable waterproofness GORE-TEX® products rely on GORE-SEAM® tape applied by specially trained manufacturers in certified factories.
The 2-layer construction, designed for a wide range of outdoor activities, uses a specific GORE-TEX® membrane bonded to the outer material and protected on the inside by a separate lining. The separate lining ensures better wearing comfort and versatility.
The 3-layer construction, designed for more demanding activities, uses a specific GORE-TEX® membrane sandwiched between the outer material and backer material. 3-Layer provides added durability without additional weight or bulk.
GORE-TEX® fabrics provide truly durable waterproofness, keeping water out through prolonged use in harsh conditions and demanding applications.
The next generation of GORE-TEX® Pro products utilizes a totally new, patent pending, membrane technology. This new membrane, which is used exclusively in GORE-TEX® Pro products, consists of multiple ePTFE (polytetrafluoroethylene) layers with a unique microstructure. These new GORE-TEX® Pro fabrics are Gore’s most durably protective mountaineering hard shells ever.
Building on time tested Gore membrane technology this new generation of GORE-TEX® Pro products uses a 100% ePTFE based multi-layer membrane construction that eliminates the need for the protective Oleophobic layer of traditional GORE-TEX® Pro products allowing for increased breathability while preserving its protection against contamination.
With up to a 28% increase in breathability over current GORE-TEX® Pro laminates, this technology increases the interior comfort of the garment by enabling the wearer to feel less clammy and more comfortable over a wide range of temperatures and conditions. The new membrane technology performs better in lower humidity conditions, is more comfortable in warmer conditions caused by solar loading, and has improved dry out times in conditions with frequent work-rest cycles with.
Designed to be even more durable and rugged than past generations, the new GORE-TEX® Pro fabrics feature a new high density ripstop micro grid woven backer for snag resistance on the inside, and a collection of durable abrasion resistant face fabrics on the outside.
Waterproofness: JIS L-1092: 20,000 mm
Breathability: 3 to 6 depending fabric
GORE-TEX® Paclite® garments feature the lightest, most packable fabrics. GORE-TEX® PacLite® garments are durably waterproof, windproof and breathable and are built for activities when weight and space are critical, but protection is still important.
The outside fabric is constructed of high-performance polyester or nylon and the inside uses a specific GORE-TEX® membrane with a protective layer made from an oil-hating substance and carbon. So no separate lining is required. This makes GORE-TEX® Paclite® shells lighter and smaller to pack away.
Special Gore-Seam® tape technology ensures all seams are 100% waterproof.
GORE-TEX® products with Paclite® product technology is the ideal solution for hiking, golf, travel and other activities where space and weight are critical. A protective layer on the inside of the GORE-TEX® membrane makes a separate lining unnecessary. The result: minimum weight and pack volume.
