Marmot Water Technology

GORE-TEX®

Marmot was one of the first companies in the US to incorporate GORE-TEX® technology into its garments. For 37 years we've partnered with W.L. Gore & Associates, designing and engineering apparel and equipment to meet the demanding needs of today’s outdoor enthusiasts.

GORE-TEX

GORE-TEX®

What is it?

At the heart of GORE-TEX® fabric is an extremely thin membrane that's durably waterproof, windproof, and breathable. It has over 9 billion pores per square inch. To construct a GORE-TEX® laminate (fabric), they bond the GORE-TEX® membrane between high-performance lining and shell textiles.

Every stitch in a seam is a potential leak. That's why for durable waterproofness GORE-TEX® products rely on GORE-SEAM® tape applied by specially trained manufacturers in certified factories.

How does it work?

The 2-layer construction, designed for a wide range of outdoor activities, uses a specific GORE-TEX® membrane bonded to the outer material and protected on the inside by a separate lining. The separate lining ensures better wearing comfort and versatility.

The 3-layer construction, designed for more demanding activities, uses a specific GORE-TEX® membrane sandwiched between the outer material and backer material. 3-Layer provides added durability without additional weight or bulk.

What are the benefits of this technology?

GORE-TEX® fabrics provide truly durable waterproofness, keeping water out through prolonged use in harsh conditions and demanding applications.
